Senior Tungsten Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tungsten Engineer to oversee our global tungsten investments and internal machining capabilities. This pivotal role involves close coordination with raw material suppliers, machine shops, and furnace teams to ensure optimal production quality and efficiency. The successful candidate will lead strategic projects to enhance machining capabilities, manage budgets, and develop innovative solutions for tungsten utilization in our manufacturing processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage global tungsten investments, collaborating closely with suppliers and external machine shops to prioritize tooling and improve machining quality.
- Oversee furnace operations ensuring set-up levels are optimal for high-quality production outcomes.
- Lead strategic projects to develop internal machining capabilities and supervise direct reports within the machining center.
- Liaise with the commodity manager to negotiate with tool fabricating vendors, facilitating quotes and vendor approvals.
- Conduct physical inspections of tungsten set-ups and manage refurbishing or modifications of existing inventory.
- Investigate root causes and implement corrective actions for tungsten-related furnace breakdowns.
- Maintain capital and expense budgets, ensuring alignment with yearly investment goals for tungsten.
- Integrate critical documents into the quality management system and update standard operating procedures for all tungsten processes.
- Participate in design reviews for new tools, manage engineering test requests, and oversee changes both internally and externally.
- Oversee new tungsten setups from inception to completion, ensuring they meet company standards and performance criteria.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- BS degree in engineering or a closely related field.
- Proven experience working with tungsten materials.
- Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and engage teams at all levels of the organization.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully managing large-scale projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with CAD software for designing and reviewing tooling and machined parts.
- Prior experience in a senior engineering role within a similar industry.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
