The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) is the largest college at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). Our strength is our interdisciplinary power. To support our students, faculty, and staff, the primary responsibilities of the CHASS Web Application Developer include application development, data modeling, and database design to enable interoperability and interconnectivity within federated enterprise systems. The incumbent will act as a programmer to develop enterprise applications for CHASS and its customers, particularly in emerging cloud computing and web services environments. Additionally, the incumbent will work collaboratively with UCR ITS and other campus IT units to align with CHASS business needs. General responsibilities include providing technical support in collaboration with CHASS IT and ITS team members.

This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule.

Minimum Requirements

1. General knowledge of several areas of IT.
2. Knowledge relating to the design and development of software. Basic knowledge of secure software development.
3. Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software.
4. Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
5. Basic knowledge of incident response procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Demonstrated experience with database administration.
2. Knowledge with TypeScript and Angular for front end development and Groovy, Grails, Spring, Hibernate, Struts for back end development.
3. Eclipse and Intellij IDEs. Cloud computing technology, Linux and Windows server administration, firewall technology, unit testing methodology.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates moderately complex software and scripts. Designs and applies basic data sources. Employs source code control techniques. Tests software to ensure proper operation and conformance to test plans. Assists with moderately complex release management activities.
2. Works on basic to moderately complex databases with appropriately normalized data structures using intermediate level database design and programming techniques such as views, triggers and stored procedures. Works on database-related issues and projects of diverse scope taking in business practice and technical considerations, applying defined IT procedures and practices to database projects.
3. Provides support for diverse clients including faculty, staff, researchers, and teaching assistants. Support must be delivered in a well prioritized, professional, timely, and respectful fashion. Provides effective documentation, training, and self-help resources for these clients. Provides in person and remote support and diagnostics for clients' software and networking problems. Maintains and improves documentation on local procedures related to client support. Provide desktop supports for endpoint systems including, but not limited to, PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS devices, printer, and multifunction computing related equipment. Configure and install computing devices for users following UC, UCR and CHASS IT security standards. Provide technical supports and troubleshoots to resolve technical issues for users of enterprise applications and IT security.
4. Manages systems and services for a facility or portion of facility of small to moderate size. Evaluates, installs, modifies and supports operating systems, software, utilities and/or tools. Applies and maintains moderately complex security controls.
5. Identifies, evaluates and develops limited to moderately complex systems, processes and procedures. Develops basic user interface designs. Documents software and processes. Creates reports and training documents.
6. Applies professional data management concepts and defined data/information management policies and procedures in completing assignments. Works on data/information management problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Designs and implements capture of metadata from technical processes such as software design and database management.
7. Plans and implements hardware and software upgrades for computing and communications devices. Troubleshoots and resolves moderately complex to complex issues. Provides internal technical support to more junior staff members and assists junior staff in resolving customer problems.
