Plumbing Engineer

The Los Angeles office of SmithGroup is looking for a Plumbing Engineer to join our team.

Working with us, you will:

1. Lead design and documentation of plumbing systems including floor plans, riser diagrams, equipment selection, scheduling, and specifications.
2. Prepare facility condition assessments and write technical reports.
3. Develop solutions to challenging plumbing issues with integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
4. Employ sustainable design principles and document sustainable design performance.
5. Participate, where requested, in client meetings.
6. Coordinate your work with all disciplines and consultants.
7. Review submittals, RFIs, and contractor proposed change orders, and conduct site observations.
8. Provide plumbing design and leadership for projects across multiple offices.
9. Provide oversight and monitoring of the work performed by junior staff.
10. Mentor and train junior-level engineers.
11. Assist mechanical engineers on engineering tasks for a project, assuring that technical, schedule and hours-expended targets are met in accordance with client expectations and applicable professional standards.

An ideal candidate has:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
2. Minimum 5-7 years of engineering experience in building plumbing systems with an A/E or MEP consulting firm.
3. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
4. Certification in Plumbing Design preferred.
5. Strong knowledge of plumbing design, codes and standards.
6. Good written and verbal communication skills.
7. Resourceful and team-oriented problem-solving skills.
8. Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office.
9. Diversified engineering experience in HVAC, fire protection or automatic control systems a plus.
10. A desire to take an active role in a local professional association.
11. A commitment to continuing education.
12. LEED accreditation preferred.

SmithGroup offers competitive compensation and an excellent benefit package. The anticipated salary range for this position is $98,000 to $129,000 annually, at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for this position. Additionally, an employee in this position is eligible for a performance-based bonus on an annual basis.
