Job Description - IS Programmer Analyst I BWH Rheumatology (3300132)
General Summary
The Section of Clinical Sciences in the Division of Rheumatology, Inflammation and Immunity is seeking a Programmer/Analyst 1 to work closely with Principal Investigator, biostatisticians, and other programmers to provide programming support for a variety of clinical and epidemiological research projects and the BWH VERITY Bioinformatics Core. Responsibilities include developing and managing datasets, extracting data from a variety of sources including electronic health record (EHR) data, preparing data for analyses, responding to programming requests, performing analyses under the guidance of a statistician, preparing tables for reports, and writing statistical methods for manuscripts and grant applications. The Programmer will implement statistical analyses and write programs using R. Biostatistical experience is necessary, and epidemiological study experience is preferred. Knowledge of other programming languages, such as SAS or Python, is preferred.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops, maintains, updates, and oversees datasets for several research projects.
- Documents all aspects of data management, such as data structure and related data cleaning procedures, and documents all study analyses performed. Makes suggestions to adjust data management procedures and biostatistical analyses as appropriate.
- Performs statistical analyses using R. Understands and adapts existing R scripts.
- Responsible for validating data using R or other statistical programs. Testing statistical programs and algorithms authored by others for validation.
- Assists researchers with writing and preparing tables and figures for reports, papers, grants, and presentations.
- Works with and communicates with investigators to meet their requests in a timely manner. Assists in project planning and attends in-person team meetings.
- Meets and works closely with other staff members and attends larger study and staff meetings.
- Assists in programming analysis of novel methods using EHR data.
- Assists with documentation of data management, such as database structure and related data cleaning procedures, and documentation of study analyses performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience using R/R Markdown for data management, analysis, and visualization is essential.
- Experience with other programming languages or statistical software is preferred. Some experience with SQL is preferred.
- Experience working in Excel and familiarity with ACCESS.
- Master's degree in biostatistics or a related field is required.
- Must have the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons of all levels.
- Must be able to prioritize and organize work responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
- Must possess a great deal of integrity to maintain confidentiality. Must demonstrate accuracy in maintaining data.
- Must be able to make independent judgments under minimal supervision for the above-mentioned job duties and responsibilities.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
