Responsibilities
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems' Boston office, located in the heart of downtown, provides transportation engineering services on highway, bridge, and rail projects throughout New England and across the country. We are growing and have an immediate opening for a Highway Engineer with 5 or more years of experience.
We are looking for a candidate to join our team who is excited to work on a variety of complex projects with colleagues who enjoy all aspects of design. The Highway & Traffic Team is currently involved in safety and design alternative analysis, corridor reconstruction projects, interchange and intersection improvements, bridge preservation projects and bridge replacement projects. Our success has been built on teamwork with our colleagues in highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design. Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):
  • Prepare and review design calculations.
  • Research design alternatives, code requirements and present findings.
  • Prepare and review reports, contract drawings, cost estimates and specifications.
  • Communicate regularly with the Project Manager as to expected results, workload, and progress
  • Advocate for, lead, and mentor entry level engineers
  • Communicate and attend meetings with clients, subconsultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Engage in business development activities including information gathering, preliminary design and proposal writing.
  • Develop accurate and consistent engineering designs and plans with quality presentation, while meeting project budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications
Qualifications
What you bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineeringn from an ABET accredited school.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), AutoCAD (required); Microstation (a plus).
  • Knowledge of AASHTO Green Book and other State DOT Design Manuals.
  • Plan production experience such as creating Construction Plans, Typical Sections, Profiles, Cross Sections, and developing details.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we'd prefer for you to bring to our firm:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience working with MassDOT and other local transportation agencies
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D alignments, profiles, and corridor or roadway modeling
  • Familiarity with highway design principles
  • Experience creating plans submission packages
  • Familiarity with Construction Staging & Temporary Traffic Control Plans
