Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale. The CO+I Engineering teams deliver services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predictable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible.

We are looking for a Software Engineer 2 to help deliver automation capabilities that power the long-range execution planning efforts, drive workflow improvements, and build solutions to assist in the delivery of large-scale data centers through efficient management of cost and schedule.

Returners

You are returning to the paid workforce after an absence of two or more years and are invited to apply for this full-time role at Microsoft!

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver assigned features including web application, backend services, platform upgrades, or infrastructure updates.
  • Take ownership of assigned problem space, collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and engineering partner teams to drive clarity in requirement and the problem to solve.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, share proven practices, and contribute to fostering an engineering excellence culture.
  • Perform live site on-call duties, follow and update shared playbook documentation, and work together with the team to ensure service quality, availability, and reliability.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge, adapt to new trends, be eager to learn, and be open-minded.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Have been out of the workforce for at least two years or more.

Other Requirements

  • Candidates must meet Microsoft, customer, and government security background screening requirements for this role. These requirements currently include, but may change, and are not limited to:
    • Microsoft Cloud Screen Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Screen background check upon hire/transfer and every two years after that while in this role.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
