Job Summary
The Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting the Engineering team with prototype assembly and dynamometer testing. Additional responsibilities include maintaining workshop cleanliness, supporting with parts tracking for builds, and maintaining supply of workshop consumables.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Engineering Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Assemble Prototype engines and value add assemblies.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues.
  • Install and remove engines from test cells/dynamometers.
  • Think critically, question results, and identify ways to improve the workshop engine design.
  • Work alongside the Applications and Design Engineering teams on various projects.
  • Support Applications Engineering with the creation of test reports.
  • Follow standardized procedures related to engine/value add assembly and test cell operation.
  • Parts ordering/transferring.
  • Manage inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and organized work areas.
  • Support Production Engineering with prototype builds performed at the Production Facility.
  • Maintain a spirited, open-minded personality and "Can-do" attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel Demands: Anticipated domestic and international travel is approximately 0-10% depending on business needs.

Working knowledge of diesel engines

Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools

Experience with assembly and/or maintenance of engines

HS Diploma or equivalent
X
Technical Degree (Diesel Mechanic)
X
Ability to create and follow checklists/procedures
X
Experience with Microsoft Suite
X
Experience with SAP
X
Experience using CAD software to view engine models/assemblies
X
Experience working in a prototype/R&D environment
X
Experience using machinery such as vertical mill, horizontal lathe, and bad saws
X
Experience safely using a MIG/TIG Welding machine, plasma cutter, and oxyacetylene torch.
X
Experience operating a test cell/dynamometer

LANGUAGE ABILITY:
Read, analyze and interpret business, professional, technical or governmental documents. Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the public.
MATHEMATICAL ABILITY:
Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in an office and manufacturing setting. While in the office, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • While performing duties that will require the individual to be on the manufacturing floor, the individual will have continuous exposure to typical engine environment, no A/C, and exposure to running engines in a closed environment with appropriate protective gear.
