Position Overview

As an Environmental Engineer Senior in the Building and Construction division, you will work under the supervision of the Bureau Chief at our central office near Valley Junction in Des Moines, Iowa. You will work with our Environmental Health and Contractor team to conduct plan reviews and perform inspections.

  3. Experience conducting plan reviews
  4. Displays high standards of professional conduct
  5. Detail-oriented and is highly responsive to colleagues and stakeholders

Responsibilities

You will be an integral member of our team, providing administrative program assistance to the department in support of the agency’s operations by:

  1. Review plans for new and reconstructed pools and spas
  2. Conduct inspections of newly constructed or reconstructed pools and spas
  3. Support the department's strategic communications plan
  4. Provide support to other Environmental Health and Contractor programs as needed
  5. Utilizing metrics in the preparation of strategic recommendations

Minimum Requirements:

Licensed Professional Engineer – Iowa Board of Engineering Examiners License as a professional engineer. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Sanitary, Civil, Chemical, Nuclear, Mechanical, Industrial, Agricultural, or Public Health Engineering and three years of full-time professional work in environmental engineering;
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of accredited graduate level course work in Environmental, Sanitary, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Agricultural, or Public Health Engineering for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of two years;
OR licensure as a Professional Engineer by the Iowa Board of Engineering Examiners.


Licensure as a Professional Engineer to practice in Iowa may be required at the option of the employing department within one year of employment.
