Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors (salary may be adjusted based on geographic location)

This position drives the development and support of energy-efficient building products from research through commercialization. Applying principles of thermodynamics and HVAC systems, the role focuses on engineering, testing, and commercializing innovative solutions that enhance building energy efficiency and resilience. Core responsibilities include designing and conducting laboratory experiments to support new and existing building energy products and sharing key insights with stakeholders to advance product and business decisions. Working closely with the Technology and Business teams, this position applies fundamental research to enhance and substantiate energy-related product value propositions.

Research and Development
- Develop and support energy-efficient building products from laboratory experiments through scale-up testing and commercialization.
- Apply thermodynamics and HVAC principles to engineer targeted energy solutions for diverse US commercial buildings and climates. Develop guides to optimize technology performance and maximize customer ROI.
- Design and execute experiments collaboratively with the R&D team, applying analytical rigor and first principles thinking.
- Develop standard test protocols for thermal measurement equipment.
- Analyze experimental results and present conclusions and recommendations to technical and business leaders.
- Design field studies and analyze data to quantify the effectiveness and value propositions of energy-saving technologies. Write technical reports. Collaborate with the Marketing team on case studies.
- Design and execute experiments leveraging energy-storing building product technologies.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams. Innovate around problem statements discovered from customer feedback and needs.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas for new energy-efficient solutions.
- Adapt quickly in a dynamic, startup-like business unit, continually learning and applying new skills.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in energy efficiency and mechanical engineering.
- Attend relevant conferences and workshops to enhance knowledge and build professional networks.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Architectural Engineering required.
- 0-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, energy systems, or related field.
- Strong academic background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, energy systems, simulation, and modeling.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, particularly in heat transfer, HVAC and energy systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, organization, and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency in engineering software and programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, 3D CAD software).
- Experience with laboratory equipment and data acquisition systems.
- Master's degree in a related field
- Familiarity with building energy modeling software and M&V protocols is a plus.
