Job Description

Job Title: Database Engineer - Matrix/Hadoop

Duration: 3 Years contract

Location: Reston, VA

Job Responsibilities

1. Review and Certify new Versions
2. Review and Certify new patches
3. Review and Certify new Unix platform Client versions
4. Review and Certify new desktop client versions
5. Develop and Build Blade logic deployment package for the new Versions
6. Work with Desktop Engineering team to design, build and package the rollout of new version clients
7. Review with Information Security and Architecture team for security clearance of the new version to be rolled out in client.
8. Design, plan and develop process to upgrade from current version to new Version
9. Design and provide the plan for migrations to different environment, server and platform
10. Design and provide solution for Replication, High Availability and Disaster Recovery
11. Enhance security policies, data security controls and processes for compliance
12. Build and enhance the operational guideline for management
13. Design and provide automation scripts for deployments
14. Design and develop Bladelogic Database Automation Package to deploy and rollback database software patches
15. Publish quarterly report on Databases versions and patches to Audit Team
16. Work with Retirement Delivery Scheduling (RDS) team to retire apps, hardware with upgrades and out of support products. Reclaim or reuse the license costs
17. Interact with the product team, understand business requirements and design technical solutions
18. Develop new programs, modify existing programs, and prepare functional specifications documents
19. Seek and recommend opportunities for process improvement
20. Analyze accuracy of project results
21. Perform code review and follow change management process
22. Troubleshoot and debug issues
23. Understand the functionality of existing applications and how to modify per requirements
24. Manage the installation, configuration and administration of database management systems, utilities, and tools.
25. Provide support for production, QA, and development database environments.
26. Daily monitoring of database backups, jobs, logs, space, utilization and other parameters for all database environments.
27. On a rotating schedule, provide night/weekend on-call support for mission critical databases. Review all daily on-call reports as needed.
28. Perform tuning to ensure database optimization, review preliminary database designs, data analysis, and creation of new databases as needed.
29. Write coding/packages as needed to assist IT units.
30. Work with users to identify challenges and opportunities for improvement.
31. Deploy database patches and upgrades.
32. Deploy changes to production as requested.
33. Develop work plans for assigned projects.
34. Create documentation of database specifications and processes.
35. Create/implement database patching strategy
36. Install and manage Sybase IQ and Sybase ASE databases
37. Translate requirements into database specifications.
38. Assist in training new associates both within department and within business units.
39. Complete all required documentation to meet department standards.
40. Adhere and maintain a positive working relationship with all the enterprise departments to optimize working relationships and communication.
41. Tier-3 support requests to identify database issues and resolve issues with database versions and patches
42. Experience in logical and physical data models
43. Adhere to privacy and confidential and proprietary company policies and procedures (i.e. HIPAA).
44. One to three (5) years of real-world experience as a DBA or equivalent
45. Experience with Matrix/Hadoop
46. Addressing complexities of very large databases (VLDB)
47. Experience upgrading Matrix/Hadoop to new major releases
48. Previous experience with trading systems would be highly beneficial.
49. Experience with SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, RAID, SAN, DTS, ETL.
50. Experience administering databases in a clustered environment a preferred.

Additional Information

1. Ability to work independently with various department staff, other state, local and federal agencies to accomplish goals and meet extensive deadlines.
2. Knowledge of current Telephony services and Technologies.
3. Knowledge of Avaya and/or Cisco platforms, call center features and operations.
4. Ability to resolve technical telecommunications problems utilizing multiple vendors/contractors.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
6. Ability to function under pressure and maintain composure in chaotic situation to resolve service related issues.
7. Understand Call Center features; such as, Automatic Call Distributions (ACD), Call Vectors, and Vector Directory numbers (VDN).
8. Ability to develop work and call flows
9. Work with multiple network platforms, such as; WAN, WLAN, Security, Voice, and Video
10. Disseminate information effectively to all teams and customers
11. Understand a large and complex network environment
