Job Description
A Systems Engineer is a team contributor who collaborates with other members of the STN technical team, Project Management Office, and customer stakeholders. This role performs support/automation of internal STN systems, as well as customer systems. There is also an aspect of planning, managing timelines, and allocation of resources.
The STN Systems Engineer is responsible for the automation of monitoring, installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of STN technology solutions.
The STN Systems Engineer also provides technical support, troubleshoots problems, and performs scripting/programming to ensure the stable and efficient operation of technology solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
- Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with developers to implement those fixes
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
- Provide 2nd and 3rd-level support for any internal/customer-related systems issues
- Serve as liaison with vendors, customers, and other IT personnel for problem-resolution
TECHNOLOGIES
Below are some technologies in which the Systems Engineer will need to demonstrate proficiency to be considered (Advanced/Expert level skills in several of the following):
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE
- Windows AND Linux System Administration (OS deployment/Software Packaging/Patching)
- Networking concepts and OS configuration (DHCP/DNS/OS Firewalls)
- Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V/KVM)
- Solid grasp of securing systems with the latest technologies (MFA/XDR/ZTN)
- Scripting in PowerShell/Python
- Enthusiasm to learn new enterprise-level software solutions and apply that to MSSP business
SHOULD HAVE EXPERIENCE (Certifications are a plus)
- Cloud Computing (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Server Hardware/Storage Hardware (HP/Dell/Pure Storage)
- Knowledge of build systems/Git workflow
- Container management (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Security products administration (VPN/Firewalls/End-point/AD/Duo/Okta)
- Backup products (Veeam/Cohesity/Rubrik)
- RMM software (NinjaOne/Datto/ManageEngine)
- Desktop Virtualization (VDI/Citrix)
Work Environment
The above primary duties, responsibilities, and position requirements are not all inclusive.
Ability to meet the physical demands of this position including:
- Occasional weekend work may be required for large deployments to adhere to maintenance windows.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, and mouse.
- Occasional lifting of equipment may be required, up to 50 LBs
