Job Requirements / Description

Compensation:
As a Machine Controls Engineer, your role revolves around designing, implementing, and maintaining the control systems that govern the operation of machinery and equipment within manufacturing environments. Here's an overview of your responsibilities and qualifications:
Responsibilities:

  1. Control System Design:
    • Design and develop control system architectures, including hardware components (such as PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and actuators) and software programming (such as ladder logic, function block diagrams, or structured text) to meet project requirements.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and electrical technicians, to integrate control systems into machinery and equipment.
  2. PLC Programming:
    • Develop PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programs to automate machine processes, monitor equipment status, and control production sequences.
    • Utilize programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, or function block diagrams to implement control logic and algorithms.
  3. HMI Design and Implementation:
    • Design human-machine interface (HMI) systems to provide operators with intuitive control and visualization of machine parameters, production data, and alarms.
    • Develop HMI screens, graphics, and user interfaces using software tools such as FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, or Ignition.
  4. Safety Systems Integration:
    • Integrate safety systems, such as emergency stop circuits, light curtains, and safety interlocks, into machine control architectures to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
    • Design safety-rated control circuits and implement safety functions using safety PLCs or dedicated safety controllers.
  5. Motion Control and Robotics:
    • Implement motion control systems to synchronize and coordinate the movement of machine axes, servo motors, and robotic actuators.
    • Program motion controllers and servo drives to achieve precise positioning, velocity control, and trajectory planning.
  6. System Integration and Testing:
    • Integrate control systems with other automation components, such as sensors, vision systems, and data acquisition devices, to enable data-driven decision-making and process optimization.
    • Conduct system testing, validation, and debugging to ensure proper operation, performance, and reliability of control systems.
  7. Documentation and Training:
    • Prepare technical documentation, including electrical schematics, control system specifications, and user manuals, to support installation, operation, and maintenance activities.
    • Provide training and support to operators, maintenance technicians, and other stakeholders on the use and troubleshooting of control systems.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Specialized coursework or training in control systems engineering is advantageous.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in control systems design, PLC programming, and automation engineering, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text) and software development environments (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Modicon).
    • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus) and networking concepts for device integration and data exchange.
    • Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, ANSI/RIA R15.06) and functional safety principles for the design of safety-related control systems.
    • Experience with HMI/SCADA software (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, Ignition) for designing and deploying human-machine interfaces.
    • Understanding of motion control systems, servo drives, and robotics programming for automated motion control applications.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex control system issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and interact with stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Diligent attention to detail in control system design, programming, and documentation to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining quality and adhering to budget constraints.

As a Machine Controls Engineer, your expertise in control systems engineering is essential for ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of manufacturing processes. Your contributions play a vital role in optimizing machine performance, enhancing productivity, and driving innovation in industrial automation.
