We are looking for a Sr. Project Engineer - ME IV to join our team in our Loveland, CO office. JFT will accept applications until this position is filled.
Job Function:
The role of the Sr. Project Engineer - ME IV is to provide leadership to their team and supervise the development of engineering solutions throughout the project life cycle.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of design engineers of various disciplines to design and produce innovative solutions for hazardous environments.
- Be accountable for all technical aspects of design, analysis, production, manufacturing and delivery of projects within a squad.
- Be the primary technical point of contact to customers on all projects within a squad.
- Produce and develop design concepts from basic specifications with limited supervision and direction.
- Create and develop design concepts into working engineering solutions.
- Produce manufacturing detail drawings incorporating limits and fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances and surface finish.
- Check and approve detailed part and assembly drawings.
- Provide full engineering calculations to support designs.
- Review and approve full engineering calculations to support designs.
- Produce, review and approve technical reports and documents.
- Provide technical files in conjunction with the contract and quality program requirements.
- Offer consultative support to team members on questions of standards, procedures, techniques, etc.
- Specify components/systems based on calculations and relevant practical experience.
- Support change control and scope/variations to contract.
- Work as part of a design team and interact with other engineering disciplines.
- Produce HAZOP studies / Safety Cases.
- Support project engineering leads and project managers with technical back up.
- Enforce working to processes and procedures.
- Assist business development with quotations for new business.
- Drive down design times with cost saving innovations.
- Manage CAD data and documentation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as technical design/team lead of a project.
- Nuclear or high hazardous remote special purpose machinery design experience a plus.
- Conversant with nuclear design procedures.
- Professional Engineer or working towards achieving.
- Experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) preferred.
- Knowledge of drawing principles and standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Must have working knowledge of complex mechanical equipment and fabrications, manufacturing techniques, materials and processes.
- Ability to operate both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design (Inventor and Vault system/SolidWorks) software packages.
- Knowledge of relevant EH&S legislation and working knowledge of current design/safety legislation.
- Possess basic business acumen and commercial awareness.
- Knowledge of EFD'S, P&ID's and MFD's.
- Working knowledge of designing equipment under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.
- This position may require the incumbent to work with export-controlled items.
Typical Working Conditions:
Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites.
JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors.
- Occasionally lift and carry objects, materials, or equipment, typically up to 25-50 pounds.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment or systems.
