The Building Technology and Urban Systems (BTUS) Department at Berkeley Lab develops technologies and tools to reduce the energy use and environmental impact of buildings. BTUS develops many software tools to help collect, manage, analyze and publish data about energy use in buildings, to support energy efficiency policies and programs. One such project is the Standard Energy Efficiency Data Platform™ (SEED), which is an open-source web application that helps organizations easily manage data on the energy performance of large groups of buildings.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will serve as the lead maintainer of the SEED open-source project, including fixing bugs and reviewing code contributions from the SEED open-source community. The developer will work on a range of activities including:

  • The planning, coding, and deployment of the SEED web application.
  • Testing and reviewing code patches from third parties.

  • Database design and tuning.
  • Continuous testing and integration.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:

  • Familiarity with open-source software project management practices.

  • Proficiency in Javascript, jQuery and Angular.js.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL and other relational databases.
  • Proficiency with web services.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for working in an open-source community.

Additional desired qualifications:
