Overview
To plan, manage and direct the functions of the Enterprise Data Analytics Engineering branch, which includes development, engineering, implementation, operation and support of Navy Federal’s data analytics platforms across data centers and multi-cloud. Partner with leaders across the organization to develop and operationalize high quality business intelligence and analytics platforms to achieve operational excellence and business agility. Serve as subject matter expert regarding branch functions, systems, policies and procedures. Support executive management in developing and executing strategic plans. May act VP in the incumbent’s absence.
Responsibilities
- Manage and direct all aspects of the Enterprise Data Analytics engineering platforms, including strategy, planning, development, engineering and operations
- Define overall reporting and analytics strategy around platforms and tools across the enterprise accelerating Navy Federal’s journey to be a data driven organization
- Manage the Enterprise Data Analytics platforms including Data Lake and Data Warehouse which form the core data repository for reporting and analytics
- Lead and oversee engineering, implementation and operations of business intelligence analyses, reporting, and dashboard platforms
- Monitor and mitigate any performance, scalability or sustainability issues with platforms or application components
- Responsible for managing risk and security within the platforms in partnership with Information Security and Risk and Compliance teams
- Coordinate compilation and analysis of operational data to establish standard for new designs and modifications to existing platforms
- Oversee quality control audits to ensure platforms follow Information Security standards
- Partner with business stakeholders to identify new data requirements, analysis strategies and reporting solutions
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and define, validate, and measure core performance metrics
- Oversee the development of business cases for new features and product concepts to enhance platforms
- Strong executive presence with proven skills to identify and recommend new and/or changes to existing service enabling tools to management
- Identify and mitigate project risks, forecast development timelines, budget and ensure communication of project status throughout the project lifecycle to all stakeholders
- Guide and analyze benchmarking, trend analysis and other input to drive continuous improvement, elevate service performance, and maximize operational efficiency
- Identify and resolve operational and performance gaps and obstacles; implement changes and improvements
- Manage and direct operations to ensure targets, service level agreements and corporate objectives are met
- Oversee the evaluation of operational efficiency and effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements by researching and analyzing internal and/or external industry trends, markets and other operational benchmarks
- Anticipate internal and/or external business challenges including regulatory; recommend process, product and service enhancements
- Contribute to a culture of collaboration by actively working across business lines, communicating knowledge and business processes to other business units
- Build and maintain relationships with team members, management, key stakeholders and external contacts (e.g., vendors, etc.)
- Work closely with the business on the identification and development of key performance indicators to deliver performance insights
- Oversee and facilitate discussions with stakeholders, subject-matter experts, business leaders, and end-users to understand business requirements and data reporting needs
- Lead and direct the development and presentation of studies and analysis that influence decision making
- Manage partnerships and collaboration with key business partners to identify critical needs, devise solutions, and facilitate the attainment of business objectives
- Continually monitor the financial services industry technology landscape to track the latest innovations across the industry and communicate relevant information to ETS (Enterprise Technology Services) leadership
- Provide overall leadership to large strategic projects or programs
- Provide forward thinking technical expertise in current and emerging technologies, trends and practices
- Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities
- Set direction to ensure goals and objectives align with corporate and division strategy
- Select management and other key personnel; oversee talent development/succession planning
- Collaborate with leadership/executive colleagues to develop/execute corporate initiatives and/or department strategy
- Oversee the preparation and execution of AFP (Annual Financial Planning)
- Manage merit pay in accordance with specified objectives and guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Significant experience working in a large-scale IT organization with responsibility for overseeing platforms including for enterprise reporting and analytics, data lake, data warehouse, preferably in a large financial services organization or other major B2C corporation
- Significant experience in working with Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, etc.)
- Significant experience in working with ETL platforms (e.g., Databricks) and query engines (e.g., Azure Synapse)
- Significant experience working with data visualization and reporting tools including self-service (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Significant experience in Data Lake, Data Warehousing, Data Marts, and Data Lakes architecture and principles
- Significant experience in working with real-time data streaming tools (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
- Significant experience in data management, data mining, data analytics, data reporting, and data product development
- Significant experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and associated technologies both on premise and in the cloud
- Significant experience with cloud deployment models and containerization techniques
- Advanced knowledge of data governance and metadata management
- Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies using Agile delivery and frameworks (e.g. SAFE)
- Advanced knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Advanced skill in strategy development and decision-making using holistic data integration and objective data analytics
- Significant experience in managing multiple strategic partnerships through continuous collaboration
- Significant experience in working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors
- Expert research, analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Significant experience in supervising and leading professional IT employees
- Significant experience in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative taking, and decision-making
- Advanced skill to effectively communicate technical and non-technical issues and information clearly and concisely to all levels of management and staff
- Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
- Advanced skill developing and implementing programs in a leadership role, providing vision and strategic thinking around a full range of technical decisions and issues including product roadmaps
- Advanced skill producing desired results and achieving goals and objectives
- Expert verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Information Security, or related field
- Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
