Job Description Summary:
Merchant Engineering's mission is to simplify commerce by providing a one-stop payment platform for all customer segments. We are the customer-facing teams within Product and Platform Engineering building the touch points that interact with our customers across all stacks (PayPal, Braintree and Hyperwallet), across all channels (online and in-store, web and mobile) for our Merchants. Within Commerce Solutions and Services, PayPal's Complete Payments team is looking for a talented Software Engineer with strong application engineering fundamentals and Java programming experience to design and build solutions supporting our merchant engagement strategy.

Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid Software Engineer role at PayPal located in San Jose, CA, with flexibility for some remote work. As a member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing, designing, and maintaining software solutions and applications that are used by millions of people and businesses worldwide. Your skills in critical thinking, collaboration, influence and creativity will help us drive innovation and deliver high-quality products and services to our customers.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop efficient, elegant, clean, reusable code and deliver quality solutions on schedule.
  • Design and develop software that is simple, bug-free, intuitive, and easy to use with platform development mindset.
  • Participate and collaborate with Product Owner/ Cross functional teams in the organization to understand the business requirements and to deliver solutions that can scale.
  • Monitor products & applications in production.
  • Triage, debug, and fix bugs.

Basic Skillset And Requirements:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on backend development in Java.
  • High proficiency and strong skills in Java, J2EE Technologies, object-oriented, REST APIs and functional programming.
  • Experience or familiarity with any of database technologies like Oracle or MySQL.
  • Good analytics & problem-solving skills with a solid foundation in algorithms, data structures and common design patterns.
  • Understanding large scale distributed systems.
  • Understanding of advanced object-oriented design and development principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
  • A constant desire to grow, learn, and explore new things.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Must reside in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain authorization to work in the U.S.
