Engineering Lead

This position requires expertise in mechanical engineering (fluidics, hydraulics, etc.) and manufacturing knowledge (castings, machining, injection molding), simulation, and analysis. Must also be familiar with electronics and sensor integration. Responsible for engineering analysis, prototyping, and experiments to support new product development and production, ensuring high standards of quality. Utilize, develop and promote the use of best practices such as DFMEA, GD&T, FEA, mold flow analysis. Develop specifications and proposals, and lead multi-site internal engineering resources and outside design partners to execute mission-critical projects contributing to Sloan’s future growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate new technologies to be applied to future products.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization both orally and in written fashion. Coordinate engineering activity with Sloan partners and design sites. Participate in setting design standards across the organization.
  • Prepare clear and concise documentation for designs, including drawings, inspection requirements, calibration procedures, engineering reports, and work instructions.
  • Plan effective component and system level experimentation to verify and validate engineering designs to product requirements. Capable of designing unique R&D tests.
  • Analyze and resolve design challenges and quality issues via a solid understanding of the science behind the design through appropriate engineering analysis including FEA and CFD, tolerance analysis, statistical methods, design of experiments, simulation, calculation and other engineering methodologies.
  • Design new products in a team-based, stage gate development process in cooperation with the PMO. Design and document components & complex assemblies. Develop and document engineering specifications and material requirements as required. Process ECNs. Follow established document control procedures.
  • Lead and/or supervise other engineers in major development projects - makes work assignments and follows up on work content. Instructs junior engineers on process and problem solving. May have direct managerial responsibility over 1-3 subordinate Engineers.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 1+ Years Relevant Experience directing other engineers within a project environment.
  • 3+ Years Relevant Experience in the design of electro-mechanical products and systems that meet relevant agency standards such as ASME and IAPMO standards.
  • 7+ Years Relevant Experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated capability in the use of statistics to support engineering decisions is required.
  • Demonstrated capability with CREO, Geometric Design & Tolerance methodology, Finite Element analysis, mold flow analysis and proficiency in Design for Manufacturing concepts are required.
  • Have a working understanding of the concepts of verification and validation of designs.
  • Proven Design experience with machined, cast and injection molded components is necessary. A strong knowledge of a variety of materials is preferred, including brass, ceramic and plastics.
  • Strong analytical skills in hydraulics/fluidics, mechanisms, dynamics and tolerance analysis.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong oral communications skills (English).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience developing plumbing, valve or water handling products or other commercial building products are desirable. Experience designing products that minimize environmental impact is highly desired. Fluid dynamics simulation experience is preferred. Strong knowledge of statistical analysis. Knowledge of 6 sigma and design of 6 sigma principles.
