We are looking for you to join our team as a Materials and Processes Engineer/Principal Materials and Processes Engineer based out of San Diego, CA. As a Materials and Processes Engineer/Principal Materials and Processes Engineer at Northrop Grumman, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Through the use of Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter.

What You'll get to Do:

  1. Provide materials and processes support to the design, development, prototype fabrication, and design verification and qualification testing of communications system equipment.
  2. Support the development of master integrity and corrosion prevention and control plans.
  3. Select materials, and perform analyses and testing to verify performance of hardware items and electrical interconnecting structures.
  4. Work closely with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve production problems.
  5. Assess defective boards, circuit card assemblies, and components, and conduct root cause failure analysis and long-term reliability evaluations when required.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for Materials and Processes Engineer:

  1. Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 2 years of experience; or 0 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree.
  2. Basic understanding of electronics including the ability to read electrical schematics, identify and understand the functionality of electronic components, and materials used in circuit card assembly (CCA) manufacturing.
  3. Experience with failure analysis processes related to microelectronics (components or assemblies).
  4. Experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  5. Clearance: Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Materials and Processes Engineer:

  1. Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree; or 0 years of experience with a PhD.
  2. Basic understanding of electronics including the ability to read electrical schematics, identify and understand the functionality of electronic components, and materials used in circuit card assembly (CCA) manufacturing.
  3. Experience with failure analysis processes related to microelectronics (components or assemblies).
  4. Experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  5. Clearance: Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in corrosion prevention and control, and in the selection of materials and surface finishes for military applications.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with outside supply chain and also within a small technical development team.
  3. Familiarity with quality systems, component DMS, ESD, ROHS, and Material Review Board concepts.
  4. Understanding of military electronics reliability requirements and familiarity with EEE components, printed wiring board, components, connectors, and electrical grounding, bonding, and shielding concepts.

Salary Range: $87,200 - $130,800
Salary Range 2: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
