Die Designer/Tooling Engineer

Overview

Our client will be hiring a Die Designer or a Tooling Engineer who enjoys the die design process. The core job focus will be die designs. This position will be designing many types of metal stamping dies including coining, fineblank, and progressive dies, as well as designing any other tooling, prototype tooling, fixturing, or gaging needed to support business objectives, all while using proven Engineering and Tool and Die processes. Provide manufacturability feedback to cross-functional teams. Support and mentor other Tool and Die team members and department Engineering staff. Supports the Tool & Die CI team with business objectives and goals related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth (SQDC&G).

Responsibilities

1. Use Solidworks CAD software to design metal stamping dies including coining, fineblank, and progressive dies, as well as designing any other tooling, prototype tooling, fixturing, or gaging required.
2. Generate strip layouts and die design planning based on customer supplied part drawings.
3. Generate surfaces and other geometry as required to complete or modify die designs.
4. Initiate die design review stages starting with strip layout and ending at final review of die design.
5. Provide technical input on manufacturability, manufacturing process requirements, strip layout, part development, die design, and component inspection processes.
6. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with cross-functional areas to ensure new dies, along with existing die modifications, are introduced in an effective manner.
7. Analyze statistical data and use it to update existing die designs, focusing on optimizing output, quality, and process capability.
8. Generate and/or update Drawings and BOMs to support die modifications or new die designs.

Qualifications

1. 3+ years of experience designing metal stamping dies like coining, fineblank, or progressive dies.
2. Demonstrated strip layout and die planning.
3. Knowledge of machine shop equipment, wire edm, and cnc programming.
4. GD&T proficiency, blueprint reading skills, and high level of understanding of product manufacturing tolerances.
5. Intermediate to advanced CAD skills.

Preferred

1. Experience with Solidworks preferred.
2. Tool & Die Apprenticeship/Journeyman status.
