Position Overview | The Big Picture

The Repair and Maintenance Technician repairs and maintains company equipment and the physical facilities, and makes suggestions for overall improvements, purchase of materials and equipment needed to keep the company’s physical assets in good working order. The Repair and Maintenance relies on experience and judgment to anticipate needs, and plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. The Repair and Maintenance Technician reports to and receives direction from the Vice President of Maintenance & Operations and may receive direction from the General Manager and other department managers.

Essential Duties | What You’ll Do – The Fun Stuff

  • Keeps all equipment and the facility operational. Conducts equipment checks, repairs equipment as needed.
  • Ensures facility and equipment are safe and up to code.
  • May occasionally build custom equipment or perform custom design work.
  • Repairs and maintains the physical facility to include: HVAC, electrical system, plumbing, and construction, concrete and welding repairs.
  • Makes suggestions for overall improvements, purchase of equipment, and maintenance and repair materials.
  • Anticipates repair and maintenance needs.
  • Conducts daily walkthroughs to view areas in facilities that need special attention.
  • Works with contractors working on projects in facilities.
  • Drives company trucks and vehicles as needed for errands, deliveries and transport of staff.

  • Tracks and enters time and assigns hours and tasks to appropriate events and jobs in time and attendance system.
  • Completes all Human Resources and Payroll tasks and notifications through the Employee Self Service Online Portal on a weekly basis, as directed and within established timelines.
  • Assists in other departments as needed and directed.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Qualifications | What You Need to Bring

  • 5-7 years of facility and equipment maintenance and repair experience including: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and General Construction.
  • Proven knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines, trade standards and building codes.
  • Good knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment that may include: hammer, screwdriver, hand drill, tape measure, dollies, and 8 foot and 12 foot ladders.
  • Ability to handle electrical and welding equipment items safely.
  • Ability to read technical specifications and instructions.
  • Ability to problem solve issues.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and follow-through skills.

Driving Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • 2-4 years of driving experience preferred.
  • Valid Illinois Drivers’ License required.
  • CDL license preferred.
  • Knowledge of USDOT and FMSCA requirements helpful.
  • Proof of clean driving record required.
  • Strong knowledge of safe vehicle usage and Illinois rules of the road required.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements | What it is Like in the Shop

  • Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend and reach during entire work shift.
  • Able to walk 50% of the work shift.
  • Ability to work with hands and arms during entire shift.
  • Must be able to move and climb ladders without accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull 30-40 lbs. throughout the shift. Occasionally may move up to and over 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Required to move between two buildings throughout the work shift.
  • Must have 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Must be able to tolerate cold, heat and humid conditions.
  • May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals throughout the work shift.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise.
