Responsibilities

Work closely with electrical designers and engineers to produce electrical bid/construction drawings for field contractors and vendors. 

Develop scopes of work for field contractors and electrical testing contractors. 

Develop RFQs / requests for proposals for electrical equipment such as power distribution equipment, switchgear, motor controls centers, power distribution centers, protective relays, power transformers, UPS system and control panels. 

Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement and reliability of electrical components, equipment, and systems.

Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting of equipment; including power distribution systems, motor controls, switchgear, UPS systems, and associated control panels.

Review and red-line in-house and vendor electrical drawings including one-lines, switchgear control schematics, MCC drawings, equipment interconnect diagrams, bill of materials, equipment layouts, etc.

Create and review electrical system designs including power generation, utility inter-ties, power distribution, motor/plant logic, control systems, emergency power, and safety shutdown systems. 

Specify protective relays and circuit breakers and develop protective device settings.

Coordinate and supervise work of contractors, including liaison with vendors.

Identify and develop scope and justification for electrical infrastructure improvement projects.

Provide occasional support outside normal business hours.

Provide technical assistance in the form of written reports, consultation, research, NEC interpretations and recommendations.

Attend project walkdowns with contractors, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) at vendor/mfg facilities.

Work with field contractors during construction, testing & start-up. Supervise, inspect and provide support as required.

Perform power system studies and analysis, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, arc flash and protective relay coordination.

Follow standards and guidelines for electrical design as provided by the company, clients, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, and the NESC.


Minimum Qualifications

10 years of industrial electrical experience, including power distribution systems.

5 or more years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or a related industry.

Experience in electrical design of medium voltage (2400v, 4160v, 15kv, 35kv) power distribution, protection, and 3-phase motor control (FVNR, SSRV, VFD).

Experience designing, engineering & specifying systems, equipment and power control buildings typically used in facilities in petrochemical plants, power plants, processing plants, petrochemical terminals, and pump stations.

Experience specifying electrical equipment including MV & LV switchgear, MCCs, and PDC buildings.

Experience with MS Excel, MS Word, and SKM (Power Tools for Windows) or ETAP.

Experience specifying and implementing protective relays, transformers, breakers, and motors.

Working knowledge in protective coordination, protective relay settings, and fuse sizing.

Working knowledge of applicable codes, guidelines, government regulations, and standards pertaining to electrical systems such as NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and OSHA.

Self-motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with MS Windows systems with the ability to learn new software and applications quickly.

Possess the ability to rapidly learn new tasks with little oversight from others.

Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels of the organization including operations, technical, plant management, contractors, and vendors.

Ability to work safely, efficiently, and effective with minimal guidance and direction.

Self-starter who takes initiative and ownership of work and learning goals.


Preferred Qualifications

15 or more years of industrial electrical experience, including power distribution systems.

Extensive experience in electrical modeling programs (SKM, ETAP, etc.) to conduct Protective Relay Coordination studies, Load Flow studies, Arc Flash studies, and Fault Analysis. 

Experience using AutoCAD and MS Projects.

Knowledge of applicable codes, guidelines, government regulations, and standards pertaining to electrical systems including API, IBC, NEMA, NESC, ANSI and NETA.

Experience with both green grass and brown grass projects, including upgrade and expansion projects.

Experience with SEL and Multilin Relays.
