Cost Control Engineer

The Cost Control Engineer position has been mainly established to support the project teams managing their budget, to ensure that Lessons Learnt from the execution phase are conveyed back to the proposals team, and to report the financial results of the project to Finance. Major responsibilities of the Cost Control Engineer also include:

1. Remeasurement of actual works performed and assets used
2. Invoicing
3. Monitoring of payments and expenses
4. Preparing forecasts of Submarine Cables Business Unit annual turnover

Cost Control Engineers will be members of the Cost Control team within the Commercial Division and work closely with various teams of the group as members of a project’s team. Communication with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers will be part of the job requirements. Attention to detail and analytical thinking are part of the skills required to perform the job.

Responsibilities

1. Perform DPR Analysis
2. Monitor for invoicing milestone accomplishment
3. In general, together with the Contract Manager if needed, ensure that all deadlines and conditions described on contracts with reference to payment milestones and similar commercial aspects of the project are met.
4. Monitor payment of invoices and liaise directly with clients to ensure payment in a timely manner
5. Report/forecast and monitor incoming cash and expenses per project as well as on portfolio level
6. Compare the forecast of tender phase with the actual financial results of the project and ensure that valuable feedback is conveyed back to the Proposals team for the improvement of future offers
7. Consult with Cost Control Manager and Commercial Proposal Manager to define project’s budget and profitability based on company’s target. Thereafter, monitor and report expenses versus budget and profitability
8. Senior Cost Control Engineers to act as Commercial Managers as a member of the project team
9. Analyze project designed solution with an eye toward reducing costs and increasing profits
10. Advise the project team on any aspects of project costs which deviate from the budget of the project
11. Provide the necessary commercial input for the draft of commercial claims, change orders, or potential serious disputes

Requirements

1. A higher university degree in Engineering; Master in Business Administration (MBA) will be a plus
2. 3-5 years experience in the construction industry or/and in supply chain management
3. Experience of working with subcontractors and suppliers will be a plus
4. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
5. Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English language
6. Additional working knowledge of other foreign languages (e.g. Italian, German, French, etc.) are not prerequisite but are to be considered as extra skills
7. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
