Job Description:

Individual must possess excellent working knowledge of Splunk (version 6+), Red Hat Linux, and VMware. Any working knowledge of AIX 5.3 through 7.1 and HP-UX 11.x operating systems in addition to any supporting tools, management environments, and virtualization technologies are a significant plus. Seeking individual with 3-5+ years working directly with Splunk, Red Hat Linux, and VMware technologies as their primary job focus.

Key Job Functions:

  1. Splunk Role and Responsibilities:
  • Splunk cluster design, development, integration, and management.
  • Standardize Splunk forwarder deployment, configuration, and maintenance across a variety of UNIX and Windows platforms.
  • Troubleshoot Splunk server and forwarder problems and issues.
  • Assist internal users of Splunk in designing and maintaining production-quality dashboards.
  • Mentor and train Splunk users and administrators.
  • Participate as an escalation point for 24x7 operations support for Splunk.
  • Monitor the Splunk infrastructure for capacity planning and optimization.
  • Design core scripts to automate Splunk maintenance and alerting tasks.
  • Support Splunk on UNIX, Linux, and Windows-based platforms.
  • Proven track record of automating processes and procedures.
  • Systems Engineering/Administrative Roles and Responsibilities:
    • Engineer solutions to complex issues and projects.
    • Provide technical directions and lead technology decisions and discussions to drive positive change.
    • Proficient in cloud-based solutions and technologies, specifically within the IaaS space.
    • Proficient in using UNIX performance tools such as sar, top, nmon, vmstat, iostat, etc.
    • Proficiencies with the installation, integration, tuning, and troubleshooting of multi-vendor UNIX environments.
    • In-depth knowledge and experience with Red-Hat Enterprise Linux and VMware.
    • Knowledge of AIX, HP-UX, and other platforms is a plus.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of Networking/Routing, firewalls, load balancer technologies, and other network concepts and appliances.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Web and Middleware technologies is a plus such as Apache, Tom Cat, Mule, Data Power, XML Appliances, PEGA, Cognos, Broad Vision, SOA, J2EE.
  • Other Qualifications, Roles and Responsibilities:
    • Detail-oriented and experience working in a production environment using Change Control practices.
    • Possesses expert-level knowledge of UNIX Operating Systems and tools.
    • Serve as technical lead and fill role of SME instructing, directing, and mentoring peers and co-workers.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams that design, develop, and implement systems architecture and supporting infrastructure.
    • Manage continuous enhancement of the systems infrastructure to meet challenging business requirements.
    • Formulate and recommend standards for achieving maximum performance and efficiency of the system.
    • Participate in the planning for retirement of systems programs and migration of systems infrastructure.
    • Participate in cross-functional work groups to assess business needs, develop a systems architecture strategy, and implementation plans.
    • Determine feasibility, cost, and time required, compatibility with current system, and system capabilities.
    • Implement system architecture strategies.
    • Design, develop, and implement operational processes and procedures.
    • Write documentation describing systems design and architecture, logic, and operational processes.
    • May develop user manuals and operating procedures.

    Education:

    College degree in Information Systems or related field and 8+ years’ experience.

    Required Technical Skills: Splunk, Linux, Unix, VMware, IBM AIX, IBM VIOS.
