The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.Role PurposeThis position will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the Wind Engineering section at Corning’s Concord, NC facility. The main responsibility is to ensure that complex fiber winding processes meet production requirements in terms of safety, quality, reliability, and output. The candidate will monitor daily process attributes and initiate troubleshooting responses as needed. The candidate will seek process improvement opportunities and implement solutions under proper change management protocols. They will be expected to support and lead continuous improvement activities and cost reduction initiatives. An ideal candidate will strive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. This position will work closely with other members of the Engineering and Operations departments to successfully meet plant output objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide high quality process support for a fast-paced 24 x 7 manufacturing environmentDemonstrate strong equipment and process troubleshooting skillsExperience with electro-mechanical motion control systems and components: PLC structured text, servo motors/drives, linear actuators, sensorsAdhere to site and corporate safety procedures: Lock-Out Tag-Out and authorized work permissionTrack daily production and quality metrics, planning reactionary measures as neededWork closely with support teams to understand and improve equipment capabilityStrong communication and presentation skillsCreative/innovative problem solvingAbility to participate or lead process improvement teamsProvide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plansHours, Schedule & Flex-time: Standard 5-day work week, 40-45 hours/week. This position requires off-hours coverage for nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co-workers.Experiences/Education - RequiredMechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree3+ years of related technical work experience in a manufacturing/production environmentExperiences/Education - DesiredSelf-starter, able to exceed expectations with a minimal amount of supervisionSolid modeling experience with Autodesk inventor, SolidWorks, or similar design softwareAbility to generate and interpret mechanical and electrical drawingsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to reach root cause mechanismsWorking knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel and AccessExperience with statistical packages such as JMP, Minitab, and Power BIExperience with Beckhoff (preferred), Allen Bradley, or similar PLC softwareExperience with mechanical prototyping and process developmentThis position does not support immigration sponsorship.The range for this position is $78,902.00 - $108,490.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
