For Brice Civil Constructors, we work with our clients to identify the optimal plan forward, assemble the best available team, and deliver exceptional results. We bring design to life with a focus on cost estimating, schedule, cost performance, compliance, change management, and safety and risk management in heavy civil construction.

What Can You Expect?

As the Project Engineer you are responsible for planning and coordinating activities concerned with construction and administrative management. You will ensure the project’s technical and reporting requirements are followed. This includes adherence to plans, specifications, schedules, applicable codes and permits, as well as compliance with accepted engineering practices and company standards. You will work on DOT, County, City of Houston, and Federal heavy civil projects. This position will provide on-site support for existing projects located in Montana for approximately 60 days and then will transition to project assignments located in the Houston Metropolitan area going forward.

How Will You Do It?

You will use your knowledge and related experience to:

  • Interpret plans and contract terms including job cost coding.
  • Ensure that field activities adhere to contract plans, specs, and company policies.
  • Perform duties as liaison with construction managers and other contacts to facilitate project objectives.
  • Coordinate work schedules, communications, and work activities with job subcontractors.
  • Complete daily project reporting that includes cost analysis, timekeeping, environmental and permit compliance, daily reports, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, quantities, and safety program documentation.
  • Coordinate project activities between office management and field management.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination among all project participants.
  • Ensure compliance with current project schedule and project completion documentation.
  • Work with the Construction Managers to manage project financials.
  • Determine supplies and materials needed to complete projects and requisition same.
  • Formulate reports including work progress and cost schedules.
  • Represent the company in project meetings as needed.
  • Assist Project Manager & Superintendent with day-to-day project operations.
  • Work from project onsite locations.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to type 45 words per minute and should have adequate knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Microsoft packages are preferred.
  • Ability to learn costing and accounting procedures.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, via written and verbal communication methods.
  • Ability to work independently and work cooperatively with others; ability to work with employees, business partners, and customers in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.

Who Is Brice Civil Constructors Looking For?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Comparable experience may be considered instead of a degree.
  • 3 years or more experience as a Civil Project Engineer required.
  • This position is required to document and process contract information into construction specific software (MS Excel, HCSS, and/or other construction data systems). The ability to learn computer-based construction and scheduling programs is essential.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule. This position requires working on project sites in Houston, TX, and the surrounding Houston areas.
  • Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the Brice Civil’s Driving Policy. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
