The Village is accepting applications for a Staff Engineer I / II in the Public Works department. A successful candidate understands engineering processes, proactively identifies and resolves problems, and is familiar with municipal infrastructure systems. The position provides construction inspection/administration on capital construction projects; maintains maps and automated databases, and prepares plans and specifications.
Major Duties and Functions:
- Provides support on capital construction projects including planning, permitting, surveying, design, and plan review.
- Prepares preliminary budget estimates, contract specifications, bid documents, construction administration, and inspection for capital construction projects.
- Ensures construction complies with Village codes and ordinances, in addition to compliance with contract specifications.
- Responds to citizen inquiries and/or complaints regarding utilities, drainage, and construction work; researches inquiries and/or complaints; verifies, responds, and resolves issues.
- Investigates drainage concerns and coordinates solutions with other staff members.
- Assists Village Engineering staff members with additional duties, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of Civil Engineering principles and practices.
- Skillful in using mathematics, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Knowledge of and the ability to use surveying equipment.
- Knowledge of construction project scheduling and accounting.
- Knowledge of reading and interpreting architectural and civil drawings and maps.
- Skillful in drafting and plan preparation.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, particularly in the area of technical writing.
- Provides direction and training to Staff Engineer I, Engineering Technicians, and Administrative Staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Staff Engineer I: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or any combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Staff Engineer II: Minimum Qualifications listed above, as well as: at least four years of progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering, or any combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A Professional Engineering License is preferred.
This is a full-time, exempt position. Must be available to work occasional weekend and evening hours, as assigned. A valid driver’s license and Engineering Intern certification are required.
Salary: The Staff Engineer I salary range is $71,851 to $98,796. The Staff Engineer II salary range is $86,046 to $118,313. The starting salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
