Role Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation and Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing, and implementing automation and control solutions connecting hardware to software systems. This role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to develop and improve innovative automation systems that enhance our electro-mechanical fitness equipment.


This position is also accountable for making recommendations on new technologies and innovation, identifying areas of opportunity for new products based on market direction and customer needs and participating in cross-functional strategy and direction. This role also coordinates all technical elements and leads technical communication within a project team. The role is based in Boise, ID, with flexibility for some remote work. 


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation or controls engineering, with a focus on electronics that control mechanical systems. 


Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in control systems, robotics – controlling hardware with software
  • Strong understanding of stepper and servo motor technologies, including selection, sizing, and integration.
  • Experience with motor drivers and controllers.
  • Knowledge of electronically controlled mechanicals systems and ability to develop alternate kinematic configurations.  
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, PLC, Python, C++, or similar.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for designing automation components.
  • Electronics experience, including noise, grounding, cooling, shielding, and interconnected circuits best practices.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems that control torques, speeds, weights and positions.
  • Proficiency in CME configuration tool and “middleware” using Copley motion libraries with C#.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols like CANopen, EtherCAT, and Modbus.
  • Experience with CML, CMO Copley motion objects, or Copley motion library
