Job Description
ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
Applications Engineers are customer-facing technical support engineers who provide guidance on product selection, installation and troubleshooting. Applications Engineers are routinely involved in sales support, product development, training, standards, and coordination with operations on product field performance. Customer focus and satisfaction are priorities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct customer technical support.
- Create and deliver product application guidelines and procedures.
- Assist engineering and product management teams with product design from product conception through release of product.
- Assist sales and marketing personnel with technical aspects of customer sales presentations.
- Support sales and marketing efforts at industry trade shows.
- Maintain current industry knowledge of product applications, standards, and best practices.
- Create samples and mock-ups when required.
- Assist in review of industry standards and best practice documents.
- Create and deliver product application training programs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Demonstrated technical competence with the ability to understand and convey cable specifications, transmission characteristics, test results, and product applications for communications cable products.
- Ability to positively interact effectively with customers across a range of circumstances.
- Ability to facilitate resolution of product quality and field performance issues with plant and R&D personnel.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Ability to develop and present training and technical information.
- Ability to travel up to as needed for visits to customer sites, manufacturing plants and sales support activities (25-50%).
COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
- Experienced in the use of MS Office applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with testing and troubleshooting equipment related to product lines of expertise.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Engineering or equivalent related work experience in the wire and cable industry
- Minimum of 8 years’ relative experience in a communications cable and systems environment (applications, field services, installation/testing).
