Job Summary:
Supermicro Computer is seeking a skilled and experienced candidate to take on the responsibilities of Sr. Thermal Engineer. The position will be responsible for the thermal architecture, design, analysis, and validation of thermal technologies (include Liquid Cooling and Air cooling technologies) within networking server and data storage products. The role utilizes and champions a design process based on estimating, simulating, and testing the thermal performance of new products and architectures. The ideal candidate will have outstanding leadership skill to lead the junior engineer and possess a strong fundamental background in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and the implementation of thermal solutions in enterprise electronics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
- Conceptualize, plan, and execute the design and development of cooling solutions for high-density multi-node computer servers
- Collaborate with motherboard, chassis, power supply, and system teams to optimize system layout and component placement
- Validate thermal compliance of systems and components with regards to industry standards
- Summarize and present thermal/cooling technical data and/or test reports to engineering teams, vendors, and customers
- Investigate and identify new techniques to advance cooling schemes and thermal management
- Interface with contract manufacturers and vendors for cooling solution development and improvement
- Provide thermal/cooling technical supports from component level to rack level
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent training with a minimum of 8+ years direct IT or computer server industry experience
- Experience working as a thermal or mechanical engineer in multi-node computer server or blade server development
- Experience running CFD thermal/cooling simulation software (e.g., Icepak or FloTHERM) and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Creo Pro/ENGINEER, SOLIDWORKS)
- Experience heat sink, air shroud/fan duct design, cooling fan/blower selection, and liquid cooling module application
- Hands-on computer server system level thermal testing or validation experience including thermocouple installation, automated data acquisition, and related lab equipment operation
- Experience running stress programs and scripts under Windows and Linux environments
- Able to make progress in multiple tasks simultaneously and be flexible to change requirements and priorities
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Willing to travel to different working locations to support project development
Salary Range
$130,000 - $150,000
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
