Role Description

Harbor is a data driven organization and has embraced data to drive corporate strategy and all operational aspects of its business. Harbor is building next generation software, products and services in the areas of investment, distribution, marketing and operations. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals to be part of a small team of professionals working on the intersection of technology, investments, distribution, marketing and quantitative analytics and is looking for their next challenge in a nimble, fast-changing organization using modern data pipeline. This role is for individuals seeking a challenging role in a nimble, fast-paced organization. Selected individuals will be working with a team of professionals building new applications using microservices architecture and modern data pipelines. The role calls for individuals who are unafraid to push the envelope and explore out of the box thinking. We are seeking candidates who can use technology to solve complex data and software engineering problems. Selected individuals will have the opportunity to work with industry leading experts in the Distribution, Marketing, Accounting Products and Investments Teams across the firm on initiatives that play a part in shaping and delivering Harbor’s vision of being a top tier asset management firm.

Key Responsibilities

Core job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines using modern data engineering tools.
  • Design and development of web-based internet and intranet applications.
  • Build, manage and deliver projects and resources aligned with Harbor’s strategic objectives.
  • Build data ingestion using REST/SOAP/GraphQL API with third party applications.
  • Interface and communicate with business users and executives across the firm.
  • Work on projects in close cooperation with CRM Team and Cloud Operations Team within the Information Technology Team in delivering new applications and services to the business.

Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas which are essential to be effective and successful in this role:

  • Strong technical understanding and knowledge of common web development frameworks.
  • Strong technical understanding and knowledge building modern data pipelines including ETL, ELT using structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Strong technical understanding and knowledge of API frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of various analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.

Engineering Skills

  • Python – expert level skills.
  • AWS – expert level skills.
  • Databases SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) – expert level skills.
  • Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, PySpark, AWS Glue – expert level skills.
  • Docker and Kubernetes, REST API design pattern.
  • Front-end UI Design using React Framework, GraphQL.
  • Software deployment tools – GitHub, ant, Junit, Jenkins, AWS Codebuild, CloudFormation, DevOps, CI/CD.
  • Reporting and data visualization tools like Tableau, Looker, Sisense, etc.
  • Statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc. – beginner level skills.

Educational Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
  • 3 - 8 years of Software and/or Data Engineering experience.
  • Financial industry experience a plus.
  • Professional and/or Technical certification a plus.
