PURPOSE

This role will own advanced automated wafer metrology process and tools, to help improve quality, throughput and timeliness of FormFactor MEMS microspring fabrication. Recipe creation and optimization, tool uptime and performance, support to production, support to new product development and Engineering development are all part of this activity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain process for advanced Automated Inspection and Measurement tools, including formulating recipes that enable selective recognition of defects on wafer-fabricated micro-springs and accurate repeatable dimensional measurements.
  • Support Production with timely troubleshooting of issues related to the tools, updated recipes, etc.
  • Own the tools, focusing on tools uptime and utilization, as well as capacity modeling for how tools fit in the overall fab throughput and bottleneck analysis.
  • Maintain updated Work Instructions to ensure a smooth day-to-day use by Production Operators.
  • Be in steady engagement with the Process Integration team to support new product development and related defect identification.
  • Routinely query engineering databases and analyze large volumes of data to extract trends and identify areas for improvement.
  • Own SPC charts to guarantee tools repeatability and accuracy. Thrive in the complexity that spans from delivering a stable toolset in the face of a broad product mix.
  • Drive improvements to leverage the most out of the advanced tools. Design experiments to verify issues, test improvement approaches and characterize process sensitivity.
  • Support root cause analysis/8D in inspection escapes/measurement errors. Drive to a zero escape/error mentality.
  • Regularly communicate with other Metrology Engineers to share learnings and drive toward a team-level improvement.
  • Guide the activity of one or more Engineering Technicians to support development and production.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 3 years of experience with a M.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical engineering, or equivalent discipline.
  • Solid previous hands-on metrology experience in the semiconductor industry. Previous experience with Automated Optical Inspection tools is preferred.
  • Experience in a clean-room / wafer-fab environment is required.
  • Self-starter, able to manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Solid DOE capability and ability to analyze results and draw conclusions.
  • Understanding of SPC, and ability to work with data analysis.
  • Comfortable with understanding complex tools operation, interacting with tool vendors and driving to high tools uptime and performance.
  • Good communication and cooperation skills, ability to learn from others and share with others.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The pay range for this role in Livermore, CA is between $136,200 and $178,800. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
