Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Thermal Vacuum specialist to support TVAC chambers and related equipment for critical spaceflight hardware space simulation testing. Individual would work with a team to perform TPMs, repairs, assembly, integration and testing of thermal vacuum equipment to support high reliably space hardware assemblies of moderate to high complexity. Candidate is required to have a strong foundation in TVAC engineering concepts, principles, theories, and techniques needed to deliver thoroughly tested aerospace products, equipment, and systems.
Essential Functions:
- Support all L3Harris thermal vacuum and space simulation testing operations, including setup and execution of thermal vacuum tests, vacuum bake out, and equipment PM/TPM on high vacuum pumps and chambers in between tests.
- Maintain test thermal vacuum chamber systems that utilize Helium (He) and Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) cooling mechanism.
- Prepare the thermal vacuum test environment; setup, installation, and operation of test sensors including accelerometers, thermocouples, residual gas analyzer (RGA), Thermal Quartz Crystal Microbalance (TQCM/CQCM).
- Coordinate with design engineers, quality control, manufacturing engineers and other disciplines to resolve issues, meet schedule and improve throughput.
- Adhere to strict spaceflight test standards and execute the Test Procedures, document results, generate test reports, and create/manage electronic test data.
- Coordinate or direct some junior staff and perform limited leadership responsibilities with ability to lead cross functional teams of two or more individuals.
- Ability to train test technicians in thermal vacuum concepts, safety and proper testing protocols.
- Contribute to L3Harris process development and improvement, and problem resolution.
- Travel to L3Harris and/or Customer sites as required for customer product post-delivery thermal vacuum support activities.
- Overtime will be required frequently to support customer product TVAC testing.
- Work non-standard shifts or on-call support as required during specific test activities.
Qualifications:
- Requires highly developed job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Knowledge in thermal vacuum chamber and associated equipment theory and operation.
- Ability to obtain work in confined spaces or a clean room environment for long periods of time (> 2 hours).
- Ability to work holidays, weekends and do occasional overnight travel; work may include shift work.
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
- Ability to Obtain a U.S. Security Clearance. This is typically based on having U.S. citizenship and successful completion and disposition of an extensive background investigation.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Embodies strong professional work ethic, self-motivation and a high attention to detail.
- Certifications using industry TVAC equipment.
- Experience working with a variety of electrical and/or mechanical assemblies and equipment within the Space or Aerospace industry.
- Hands-on experience using a variety of hand tools including use of specialized tools. e.g. torque wrenches, micrometers, and calipers.
- Experience with written process and procedure protocol.
- Experience with bench-top testing of electrical/mechanical assemblies.
- Experience with ESD safeguards and contamination control.
- Experience working with computer systems and their use with test equipment operation; DVM, O’scope, DSA, Power Supplies etc.
- Experience with Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) with certification.
