Principal Software Engineer, Better Together

Overview

Intuit’s Better Together solutions engineering team is responsible for creating durable technology solutions and patterns to accelerate ecosystem integrations with acquired products and customer bases (such as Credit Karma and Mailchimp).

This role requires expertise in full stack development, interoperability across cloud providers, applications and data stacks, and deep understanding of integration patterns with the ability to build reference implementations and proof of concepts. The candidate should be a self-starter, proactive in identifying problems that slow down Better Together business initiatives, and able to influence and drive technical decisions for long-term end-to-end solutions across platform and product development teams.

What you'll bring

1. BS/MS in Computer Science or related area or equivalent experience
2. 8+ years of experience developing systems/software for large business environments (Java, J2EE)
3. 5+ years of experience designing complex distributed systems, management products or business applications
4. Solid design and coding skills (Java, J2EE, PHP, Ruby, Perl, XML, REST, SOAP, JSON)
5. Strong OOD and SOA principles, with ability to implement them in a language of choice (Java/J2EE)
6. Strong experience leading design and implementation of robust and highly scalable web services
7. Strong knowledge of JBoss, Maven and Spring
8. Skilled in software development lifecycle. Experience with SCRUM, Agile and iterative approaches a plus
9. Able to operate at highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high level technical design to detailed technical design to implementation
10. Synthesize achievable solutions from diverse inputs, alternative sources (build / buy / partner) and complex data
11. Experience with frameworks like Struts, Spring, Hibernate, JSF a plus
12. Experience with MySQL and ActiveMQ a plus
13. Prior working experience in utility computing and/or cloud computing domain highly desired

How you will lead

1. Drive significant technology initiatives end to end and across multiple layers of architecture
2. Drive design and implementation of durable and software solutions that will solve critical customer problems
3. Recommend development best practices for application development
4. Recommend and support development tools
5. Capture requirements and use cases
6. Deliver technical design and implement highly available, scalable, and secure web services with excellent quality
7. Partner with other groups both inside and outside of Intuit for cross-functional design, solution integration and on-boarding of mobile/SaaS/PaaS/web/desktop offerings
8. Work with cross-functional team members from Architecture, Product Management, Q/A and Production Operations to develop, test, and release features
9. Passion for continuous learning, experimenting and applying cutting edge technology and software paradigms
10. Actively stay abreast of mobile/SaaS/PaaS trends and standards, recommend best practices and share learning
11. Pursue and resolve complex or unchartered technical problems and share key learnings
12. Provide technical leadership and be a role model to software engineers pursuing technical career path in engineering
13. Provide/inspire innovations that fuel the growth of Intuit as a whole
14. Apply your experience and innovation to generate creative ideas for emerging business needs
15. Coach and mentor other engineers in process and methodologies
