Senior Java Developer

IDEXX is looking for a Senior Software Developer to play an important role in enhancing our IoT communication platform to support a growing customer base. Our cloud-based platform consists of an event-driven microservice architecture that enables IDEXX to provide continuous maintenance, monitoring, and support of medical instruments for pet health providers on a global scale. Our team is a high functioning Scrum team with a strong business partnership and drive for delivering great results.

We have a preference for someone who is able to be onsite at our Westbrook ME office at least 2-3 times per month, but will also consider remote.

In this Role You will:

1. Be a senior member of a highly effective team delivering industry-leading software.
2. Design, build, test, deploy and iterate on software while fostering the professional development of junior team members.
3. Partner with business to build and communicate a technical vision for the product and technical strategy within the project.
4. Participate in strategic business and technical planning to bring innovations and ideas to life.
5. Encourage and support learning within the team.
6. Work with an experienced team of professionals across many disciplines.

What do you need to succeed?

1. 7+ years of experience working as a Software Developer
2. Experience using Java, Spring, and AWS
3. Intrinsically notice inefficiencies and desire to resolve them
4. Desire to influence, guide, mentor, coach, lead, support, and enjoy a heavily involved team atmosphere
5. Ability to plan ahead and be strategic
6. Seasoned experience working through technical challenges and solving complex issues
7. Support continuous improvements to development practices and challenge the status quo
8. Ability to lead discussions, projects, and influence others
9. Proficiency with Java and Spring required. Experience with other Object-Oriented languages a plus
10. Penchant for Test and Behavior Driven Development
11. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
12. Several years development experience creating, and maintaining, new and legacy solutions
13. Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs
14. Experience with relational databases, Structured Query Language (SQL databases) and unstructured NoSQL
15. Experience working with modern technologies and cloud platforms, with a strong focus on containerization and AWS
16. Knowledge of client-server architecture and modern authentication patterns.
17. Mature understanding and experience with secure coding and design principles
18. Experience working-in and supporting Scrum practices within the Agile framework
