Role Overview:
The Opto-Mechanical Assembly and Test Technician assembles products comprising optical, mechanical, and electronic components including the assembly, test and qualification of electro-optical instruments, components, and systems. Documenting procedures and providing real time feedback to engineering is required. This position would be joining our Tightbeam team. Tightbeam, is a cutting-edge laser communications system that is capable of connecting land, sea, air and space targets across vast distances, with high reliability and with data-rates previously unachievable (100s of Gbps).
Essential Functions:
- Follow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings and schematics with minimal oversight
- Responsible for the inspection, assembly and integration of high end, complex optical-mechanical and optical components and assemblies including fiber optics and lasers
- Troubleshoots and develops solutions to resolve issues
- Assemble optical.echanical.lectro-optical assemblies in cleanroom environment
- Ability to use optical measurement tools including power meters, fiber inspection tools, microscopes
- Ability to identify design deficiencies and propose solutions to the design team to aid with assembly and integration of parts
- Ability to route wires and optical fibers in a clean and organized fashion
- Document build as-built notes including serial numbers and performance criteria and other pertinent information
- Tests functional performance of assembly
- Bore sighting and precision optical alignment
- System calibration and test
- Maintain quality system documentation
- Incoming inspection of parts, components and optics
- Identification and documentation of defective parts
- In-process inspection and testing
- Pack instruments for shipment
- Complete shipping documentation
- Escalate issues and recommend solutions
- Provide training for other production staff and achieve a high level of cross training
- Associates degree in optical science and 3 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of optical handling, cleaning and assembly procedures
- Knowledge of optical devices including: lenses, mirrors, prisms, collimators, shear plates, beam splitters etc
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
- Experience with interferometers, oscilloscopes, function generators, precision power supplies, digital multimeters, and other general optical lab equipment
