A Day in the Life

The Medtronic Systems Engineering and Integration Test team helps bring new products to market which help people living with diabetes more easily and successfully manage their diabetes. At Medtronic Diabetes, we work in the challenging space where medical devices are in the hands of everyday people, and those people expect state-of-the-art technology to help make things easier and more connected. Patients, their loved ones, and their healthcare providers all rely on our products to help seamlessly manage diabetes daily.

As a Senior System Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving projects through the required integration and test processes. Utilizing your strong engineering expertise, teamwork-oriented mindset, and commitment to achieving results, you will ensure the quality and reliability of our software, firmware, and system components. Your responsibilities will include leading testing efforts, coordinating with cross-functional teams, supporting various Systems Engineering Test activities—such as integration, verification, analysis, modeling, issue investigation & resolution, and documentation—and contributing to the continuous improvement of our development processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Integration and Verification Testing:

  • Perform system testing activities and coordinate testing efforts with other team members.
  • Write and assign test cases to the team, ensuring comprehensive test coverage.
  • Perform functional and characterization testing.
  • Conduct smoke testing to verify the stability and functionality of releases.
  • Develop, review, and execute test plans and test cases based on new requirements for various system components, including pumps, sensors, mobile apps, web applications, and services.

Test Planning and Strategy:

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and monitor testing activities to meet project timelines.
  • Develop and review verification strategies, test designs, test cases, and test tools to ensure the completeness and accuracy of documentation.
  • Define and analyze use cases and use conditions to develop test concepts and methods.

Defect Management:

  • Participate in defect review meetings to assess and prioritize issues.
  • Follow up with the development team on existing bugs and issues to ensure timely resolution.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and drive improvements into our software lifecycle processes.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Maintain frequent communication with program management, system analysts, scrum masters, development teams, technical support, and other test teams.
  • Consult with technical leads on new feature design to ensure product testability and identify coverage gaps.
  • Create and deliver training materials for team members to enhance their understanding and skills.

Tool Development and Utilization:

  • Utilize existing tools and techniques to execute test cases efficiently.
  • Build new tools for verification and testing to improve test automation and coverage.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the software lifecycle processes to enhance product quality and team efficiency.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific discipline and 4+ years experience in technical testing or engineering experience

OR

Advanced Degree in engineering or scientific discipline and 2+ years experience in technical testing or engineering experience

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated experience generating technical documentation such as engineering reports, test plans & procedures.
  • Experience regularly testing with physical devices: breakout boards, pump, sensors, mobile phones.
  • Experience with development in a regulated industry such as medical device, defense, or automotive.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of product development.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $104,800.00 - $157,200.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
