Overview
Garmin International Seeks Senior Software Engineer (Olathe, KS; multiple positions).
Essential Functions
- Serves in a leadership capacity for carrying out software development in C#, Java, or other selected languages for new products and/or applications.
- Serves as a Lead Software Engineer for complex software development project designs and/or reviews architected modules and software systems supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality.
- Decomposes functional requirements into well-defined tasks.
- Researches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate.
- Offers peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies, and software designs.
- Contributes to advanced technical research on new aviation technologies.
- Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
- Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility.
- Mentors and/or supervises less experienced Software Engineers.
- Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to technical problems.
- Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate.
- Associates are permitted to work from home, within commuting distance of office, up to two days per week provided that their job duties can be performed effectively while working from home, and if they have appropriate approval from their manager.
- Full-time remote work is not available.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, IT, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, and 5 years of work experience in a field related to software engineering.
Demonstrable experience in the following:
- Software development in Java, C#, and associated technologies and concepts including Spring, RESTful interfaces, and containerization strategies.
- Postgres or equivalent database technologies.
- Effectively communicating technical work progress in a large team or departmental setting to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Business-to-business systems integration leveraging a services infrastructure.
- Legacy Visual Basic 6 knowledge.
- Ability to work under very general direction.
In lieu of a Bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience, a Master's plus three years of experience in the requirements noted above is acceptable.
