Software Engineer, Developer Productivity

We’re evolving streaming beyond the Apache Kafka protocol into a unified “engine of record” that delivers a categorical reduction in complexity, wicked-fast performance, onboard Wasm transforms, and transparent tiered storage that gives consumers access to both real-time and historical data from a single API.

About the Role:

In this role, you will develop and maintain tools to build, deploy, provision and configure infrastructure used in the development and release of Redpanda Data’s line of products. Working within the Developer Productivity (DevProd) team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of Redpanda's software delivery processes and practices. This is an opportunity to work closely with product and engineering leadership teams at a fast-growing, well-funded startup.

You Will:

1. Be a part of our Developer Productivity team, working with all of engineering to support development, QA and overall software delivery activities
2. Design, build, and maintain build/testing infrastructure, with usability and agility in mind
3. Build tools & services to automate the deployment and testing of our software
4. Lead initiatives that have the overall goal of improving the productivity of the Engineering organization
5. Participate in on-call rotations, working to keep developer workloads running and incident free

You Have:

1. 10+ years of software development experience
2. Passion for building tools and improving engineering velocity
3. Public cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure), specifically automating tasks on cloud infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi
4. Experience with configuration management frameworks such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, etc.
5. Excellent shell scripting skills
6. Experience writing software projects in Python or Go
7. Experience automating software delivery tasks in CI/CD systems
8. Experience building and running containers locally (docker) or on the cloud (Kubernetes)
9. Familiarity with and the ability to dive into new coding languages and frameworks

1. Experience deploying streaming engine platforms such as Kafka or Pulsar
2. Building tooling for projects written in C/C++/Rust
3. Building systems written in CMake, Bazel or Meson
4. Developing or extending testing frameworks written in Python or Go
5. Deploying stateful services on Kubernetes
6. Monitoring software using a metrics collection platform such as Prometheus and Grafana

U.S. base salary range for this role is $184,000 - $217,000 (CO, TX) and $212,000 - $250,000 (CA, NY). Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. As a remote-first company, we strive to consider each candidate's job-related skills, location, experience, relevant education or training to determine individual base salary.
