Job Overview
As a member of the mechanical engineering team in Fort Washington, the team member will be responsible for the research, design, development, documentation and testing of mechanical subsystems and robotic automation manufacturing equipment for the semiconductor industry. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop some or all of the following:
- High speed, precision motion systems and structures for semiconductor fabrication equipment for a market leader in the field
- Critical process enabling technology to support customer requirements for semiconductor assembly
- Precision optical structures for machine vision optics
- High speed and high accuracy actuators
Main Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical components, modules and systems according to system specifications with a focus on design for reliability, manufacturing, assembly, & cost.
- Define mechanical sub-system requirements and specifications
- Conduct cross functional collaboration with electrical, process, procurement, and manufacturing engineering
- Assessment of mechanical designs and reliability using hand calculations, MATLAB simulation, FEA, statistics, etc.
- Create product validation plan including required testing through experimental setups
- Support fabrication and build of prototype and production systems
- Conduct prototype testing, data collection, processing, analysis and documentation
- Development of design, assembly, and manufacturing documentation
- Provide technical support to our field engineers and customers
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical engineering (BS minimum, MS preferred)
- 5+ years of hands-on engineering development experience with electromechanical systems
- CAD program experience (NX preferred)
- Finite element analysis software experience
- GD&T knowledge
- Work in a multi-disciplined team environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and efficient organization
- Ability to travel occasionally, domestically and internationally
- Motion System design (linear and rotary)
- Motor, bearing, encoder selection for high speed motion performance, precision, robustness, cost effectiveness
- Understanding of motor design including magnetics is a bonus
- Design of dynamic structures with high stiffness to weight properties
- Familiarity with vibration damping methods
- Experience with high volume manufacturing methods such as castings and moldings
- Vibration testing, modal analysis, bode collection, design for servo control
- Motion performance testing
- Motor, bearing, encoder selection for high speed motion performance, precision, robustness, cost effectiveness

- Sense of timeliness and desire in wanting to find solutions for new product R&D
- Hands on problem solving at all levels of product development
- Good intuitive understanding of dynamics
- Research of new technologies and methods through academic literature

- Supplier relationship development: technical and logistical communication & collaboration
