JMT, is currently ranked #61 on Engineering News-Record’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms.Position summary: JMT's Washington, D.C. office is looking for a Water Resources Project Engineer to be responsible for roadway drainage engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. U.S. Residency Required.Compensation is $40-60/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.JMT offers outstanding opportunities for career and professional growth. We are 100% employee-owned (ESOP) and this position is eligible for participation in JMT’s Health and Welfare benefits program.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPlan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scopeAnalyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projectsPerform roadway drainage design computationsDesign projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing toolsDevelop construction cost estimatesAssist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and constructionPrepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimatesManage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplinesDevelop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposalsAttend meetings with clientsCoordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established qualityNonessential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerform other related duties as assignedRequired SkillsProficient in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3DProficient in Microsoft OfficeWritten and communication skillsProficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software preferredRequired ExperienceBachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program4-10 years of experience in Water Resources or related engineering disciplineHydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational MethodStorm drain design, stormwater management design, and erosion and sediment control design experiencePreferred ExperienceProfessional Engineer LicenseWater resource engineering design in District of Columbia, Maryland, or VirginiaProficiency in discipline specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, FlowMaster, and/or HEC-RAS preferredWorking ConditionsWork is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
