Location: Remote (Preferred 1 on EST and 1 on PST)

Job Description:

Service Engineer Backend Developer

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Ensuring availability, performance, security, and scalability of production systems.
2. Serve as primary POC for LiveOps/GCX to address service incidents and troubleshoot/triage as appropriate. Work with the core engineering team to address bugs and deploy services across different environments.
3. Collaborate with infrastructure teams to scale for service capacity and traffic spikes of 20x normal load during T1 events.
4. Provide recommendations for architecture and process improvements.

Secondary Responsibilities:

1. Create and maintain service health dashboards to monitor production systems.
2. Implement alarms where there are gaps in service health monitoring.
3. Maintain and update eBay Live SOP.

Requirements:

1. Experience with modern programming languages, e.g. Java, Go, C++.
2. Experience in building large, reliable, scalable distributed systems.
3. Experience with building event-driven applications.
4. Experience with designing and building RESTful APIs.
5. Experience with modern DevOps principles and continuous delivery.
6. Work closely with colleagues and customers in different functional groups and remote offices.
7. Hands-on experience with GraphQL is a big plus.
8. Experience on web socket is a big plus.

Impact of the Project:

eBay Live provides a livestreaming experience in the eBay app. Normally eBay can have issues but streaming needs to mitigate issues quickly. Provide support for the live sellers and buyers and help identify and resolve issues. Less on the feature development side, more on bug fixing and providing support. Looking for backend and service development experience. Identify root cause of issues and provide fixes/resolutions; could also help the team evolve the monitoring alerting process/system.

Required Skills (Top 3 to 5 / Non-Negotiables):

1. Java experience is a must.
2. Unique to live streaming experience – Live, radio streaming, and video streaming tools.
3. REST API/GraphQL experience is important.
4. Spring Boot experience.
5. Debugging skills as this role is more on the support side than development.
6. Soft skills: Great level of communication skills, strong problem-solving skills.
7. Basic Computer Science knowledge.

Education Requirement:

Minimum high school education; no college experience required. 7-9 years of experience; minimum 3-5 years of experience with a college degree.

Software Skills:

Java, Spring Boot, debugging skills.
