Job Requirements / Description

This position is responsible for designing and implementing new systems or processes to increase operational efficiency and support plant leadership with operations planning activities and problem resolution. The industrial engineer reports directly to the deputy director of operations and has an indirect reporting structure to the plant manager.

The first year of the assignment will be geared towards day-to-day operations with identified projects, ensuring an advanced working knowledge of site-specific operations, customer intricacies, and site-specific projects before moving into a more strategic function.

Essential Functions

  • Manage project tasks and coordinate with key project stakeholders.
  • Able to collaborate with Business Development, Operations and Finance
  • Identify critical key performance indicators (KPIs) to help drive efficiencies and safety
  • Analyze operational data, layout, material, and workforce utilization.
  • Review/define process/system requirements
  • Lead implementation activities for new or changing processes and systems.
  • Provide training, resources, and documentation.
  • Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
  • Coordinate objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize service reliability, and minimize cost.
  • Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, service capabilities, and project status.
  • Travel to customer or vendor sites for presentations, meetings, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally be required to lift 51 pounds, anything over this, an employee needs to request assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is performed in a busy warehouse environment with high forklift traffic. Warehouses are subject to seasonal temperatures. Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, vests, and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full Time, Exempt. Schedule flexibility for extended or unplanned work hours is required.

Travel

Travel between locations may be required.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is required.
  • 7+ years of work experience in Industrial Engineering and Supply Chain Operations
  • Advanced technical skills; MS Office (including Excel), Outlook, AutoCAD (2D), Visio
  • Knowledge of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or equivalent inventory software
  • Knowledge of a Labor Management System (LMS) or equivalent labor reporting software
  • Experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies (certification is a plus)
  • Ability to comply with and follow customer operating standards
