As an Engineering Project Manager (PM) for the Surgery and Heart Failure Platform, you will make significant contributions towards Abiomed's next generation of Impella 5.5 heart pumps. The ideal Project Manager candidate will be goal, data-driven, detail oriented; and experienced in the medical industry. The Project Manager will help drive complex development projects through their project life cycles. Coordination of multiple projects across the Impella 5.5 portfolio and Surgical Platform to drive efficiency and optimal use of resources are expected. This role is part of a technical group and the successful candidate will be eager to get involved in the development cycle to contribute to the continued success of Abiomed.


Principal Duties And Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate, prioritize, and facilitate concurrent projects and demands in large, diverse, cross-functional teams.
  2. Effectively generate work breakdown structures and develop project schedules which clearly articulate critical path activities.
  3. Fluently and regularly implement fast tracking to accelerate with quality the process from concept to market in record time.
  4. Participate in risk management with qualitative and quantitative risk analysis techniques, monitor and control project risk, and implement risk response activities as necessary to preserve timely delivery of high quality products.
  5. Coordinate meetings, minutes, presentations and provide regular detailed management reports while utilizing experience in scrum to keep team focused and engaged in execution.
  6. Develop and maintain project status dashboards. Prepare and present project planning and execution summaries to attain agreement on project scope.
  7. Work with engineering team to ensure timely and complete DHF/design control deliverables.
  8. Generate strategic data to facilitate informed and justified decisions quickly, effectively, and with the highest levels of confidence and accountability.

Job Qualifications:

  1. BS in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or directly related scientific discipline.
  2. 5 years experience leading and executing the coordination of programs/projects and the delivery of products in engineering/R&D teams. Exceptional project coordination skills while being able to multi-task and meet multiple project schedules on time.
  3. Experienced in understanding design controls and deliverables.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication, analytical/problem solving, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to understand and apply applicable FDA regulations and company operating procedures, processes, policies, and rules.
  6. Team oriented. Proven teamwork skills in a cross-functional engineering environment, ability to motivate and empower team members, set and manage expectations.
  7. Proficiency with project budgeting and forecasting, MS PowerPoint, Project Management software, MS Excel.
  8. 10% Travel (project dependent).
