The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Construction is looking for two Engineering Assistant 1/2's in Juneau to help us Keep Alaska Moving!


What you will be doing:

Engineering Assistant 1:

Under the immediate supervision of a Construction Project Manager and a Lead Project Engineer, the Engineering Assistant 1 performs a variety of entry/trainee level professional construction engineering duties.

The main purpose of the Engineering Assistant 1 position is training and development towards becoming a Project Engineer, the Department’s representative responsible for all aspects of onsite administration of a construction project. Within the first twelve months as an Engineering Assistant 1 the position has worked on at least one active construction project as an engineering inspector, materials testing technician, office engineer, assistant project engineer or a combination thereof. Through those assignments the incumbent will become competent in the primary work activities and proficiencies outlined in the training plan to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities for advancement to Engineering Assistant 2.

Engineering Assistant 2:

Under the immediate supervision of a Construction Project Manager and a Lead Project Engineer, this position performs similar duties of the Engineering Assistant 1, but at a higher capacity. The Engineering Assistant 2 completes a variety of basic engineering duties by selecting and applying accepted and standard engineering practices to Construction of Capital Improvement Projects. In addition to Engineering Assistant 1 work, other duties include serving as Project Engineer for low or medium-level complexity projects and as Assistant Project Engineer on more complex projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Engineering Assistant 1:
Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET.

Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.

Engineering Assistant 2:
Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Special Note:
This position requires travel depending on the assigned construction project for the project duration, 4-9 months per year, in Southeast or Southwest Alaska. A valid driver's license is required.
