Summary

The King County Road Services Division designs, builds, operates, and maintains roads and bridges in unincorporated areas of King County. The division is committed to ensuring the county's transportation system is safe for public and efficient for all uses and modes of travel.

The Road Services Division, Engineering Section, Bridge Unit, is currently recruiting for a self-motivated, team-oriented Senior Engineer (Engineer III) to lead a team of project support and design engineers assigned to various Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects . The projects may include large complex bridge replacement, rehabilitation, repair, painting, load upgrades or retrofit and seawall/retaining wall projects. Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (BSCE) or a closely related field, along with extensive experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of engineering principles , particularly in structural design and civil engineering .
  • Ability to effectively lead a team that contributes to a work environment that embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued .
  • Expertise in preparing, negotiating, and administering consultant contracts , with a proven track record in managing projects, including scope preparation, budget oversight, and schedule monitoring.
  • Proficient in preparing written reports or technical memos for projects with experience in developing road, bridge, and drainage design plans, specifications, engineering estimates, and schedule.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products , including Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Access, PowerPoint; Bluebeam Revu; and AutoCAD.
  • Skill in responding to outside agency and citizen inquiries and working with interest groups. Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish priority of projects and project tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate productive meetings among employees, citizens, agencies, and other interest groups.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bridge Inspector Lead Certification.
  • Knowledge of National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and in the use of the Washington State Bridge Inventory System (WSBIS) coding procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Valid Washington Professional Engineer (PE) License or be able to obtain it within six months of employment.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8.00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay, with prior supervisor approval.

TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT: This is a hybrid position. The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking, onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
