** This is a hybrid position that requires working from Mountain Hardwear's Richmond, CA area HQ at least 3 days a week.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As the Senior Fit Engineer for Mountain Hardwear you will contribute to the product development process by working closely with and developing strong partnerships with all functions within Product Creation, including Product Development, Merchandising, Design, Materials Research, Quality Assurance, LO Merchandising, and our HK Development Center. Your focus will be on optimizing garment fit and manufacturability for our sportswear category across men's and women's apparel and ensuring a coordinated and efficient apparel engineering process.

In this role it is vital to remain true to the product's and end-user's needs, directed by Merchandising and Design, while considering manufacturability of the product.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Ensure fit consistency at the style and category levels during the season by participating in scheduled fit sessions and seasonal auditing of products, at the classification level; lead in block development for fit consistency at the style and category level to ensure products meet Mountain Hardwear's customer needs in fits with the body while providing feedback on category fit blocks with Fit Engineering leadership.
  • Own building of measurement charts in PDM per assigned fit block or reference styles, adjusting specs based on style needs by Design. You will be responsible for making comments on fit, measurement, and pattern revisions on each style. Maintain accurate measurement charts in PDM throughout the development cycle of each style.
  • Knowledge of grading to review different sizes for design intent and customer fits with motions needs. Review and approve graded size charts and patterns from factory or DC.
  • Collaboration: Connect with other teams within the company and externally with vendors to assure intent of fits through clear explanation and patterns revisions to international partners, for whom English is a second language.
  • Organization: Create tools, systems, and processes that allow for quick and accurate management of a large style workload.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly communicate Fit-related issues in a concise manner to a broad audience, including international partners, for whom English is a second language.
  • Engineering: Working with Fit Engineering Manager and/or Director, establish parameters for Fit on a yearly basis including pattern measurements, process allowances, and standards. In collaboration with the Product Developers, identify, document, and communicate any construction details or sew methods to the factory which affect fit.
  • Fit Sessions: Provide leadership to the product creation teams in all fit sessions; take an active role in fitting prototypes with the Designer and PLM. Review the prototype to ensure that the garments meet fit requirements, are constructed according to the established specifications, and meet Mountain Hardwear quality standards.

YOU ARE

  • Known for your ability to maintain positive and open lines of communication with the product creation teams you partner with while contributing to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the fit process.
  • A go-to resource to Merchandising, Design, and Product Development teams by sharing technical fit knowledge, including the many influences on fit, such as fabric behavior, weight, articulation, etc. You stay informed of relevant industry and trend-related Fit information, as it pertains to assigned category.
  • Offer fit-related suggestions and recommendations to improve products and ensure successful commercialization, from prototype stage to production.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization skills.
  • A strong team player who can also operate independently.
  • Knowledgeable of Mountain Hardwear's end-user activities.

YOU HAVE

  • College degree or equivalent with coursework in textiles, apparel design, development or manufacturing or related experience.
  • 3-4 years of manual and digital patternmaking, fit engineering and grading experience, and 3+ years of 2D patternmaking on Gerber version 9 or higher; 3D knowledge in Browzwear is a plus.
  • Experience with Asian apparel development is helpful. Large scale factory experience is also beneficial.
  • Understanding of the Mountain Hardwear core consumer is a plus.
  • Garment construction and manufacturing practices knowledge, especially as it relates to the outdoor apparel industry, end user and retail distribution space.
  • Proficiency in manipulating data including statistical analysis and advanced math calculations.

** Job requires hours that may occasionally exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during times of peak activity. Evening meetings and/or weekend work occasionally required to collaborate with people in other time zones and to ensure timely project completion.

Domestic and International travel is required.
