The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in implementing and optimizing vision inspection systems for various surface types and materials, including different kinds of plastics and other materials prone to surface defects. This role requires a strong understanding of metrology principles, automated inspection technologies, and a keen eye for detail to ensure the highest quality standards are met in manufacturing processes. What You'll Do:
  • Design, develop, and implement vision inspection systems tailored to specific manufacturing needs, focusing on different types of surfaces and materials.
    • Collaborate with automation engineering, manufacturing engineering, and quality teams to integrate vision inspection systems into new and existing production lines.
      • Create, customize and optimize vision algorithms to detect various surface defects, including molding and plating inconsistencies.
        • Conduct detailed analysis and validation of inspection systems to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and reliability.
          • Develop and maintain metrology standards, procedures, and best practices for vision system inspections.
            • Perform root cause analysis of detected defects and work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.
              • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to metrology technicians in the field of metrology and vision inspection.
                • Lead training sessions for operations teams on the use of vision inspection systems and interpretation of results.
                  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in metrology and vision inspection technologies and recommend upgrades or new systems as needed.
                    • Lead and manage projects related to the implementation and improvement of vision inspection systems, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality targets are met.
                      • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to select and validate appropriate vision system components and software.
                        • Monitor and report on the performance of inspection systems, driving continuous improvement initiatives. What We Seek: What are the Position Specific Competencies? Define the skills/competencies necessary to do the job. These should tie directly back to the purpose and outcome.
                          • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, Metrology, Automation or a related field.
                            • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in metrology, with a strong focus on vision system inspection for different materials and surface types.
                              • Expertise in various vision system technologies, including 2D/3D imaging, laser scanning, and automated optical inspection (AOI).
                                • Deep understanding of material properties, particularly plastics.
                                  • Proficient in metrology software and tools, with experience in statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis.
                                    • Experience with machine learning or AI-based vision systems for defect detection.
                                      • Experience with programming languages and automation tools for customizing vision systems.
                                        • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex inspection data.
                                          • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
                                            • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to quality and inspection in manufacturing.                                               • Salary in the $115,000K-130,000K/year range with actual pay dependent on candidate overall skills for the role.
