Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data–structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We are in the process of integrating our disparate products into Azure Synapse Analytics with a set of experiences that are meant to simplify and accelerate time to value.

Responsibilities

  1. Build and deliver world-class planet-scale Microsoft Fabric services to contribute to the advancement of Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) technologies in collaboration with Microsoft researchers, product managers, and architects.
  2. Research and develop Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions for Fabric SQL Data Warehouse product.
  3. Design, code, test, and operate applications that are performant, reliable, scalable, secure, and responsible.
  4. Deploy and operate production services that customers trust and depend on.
  5. Make engineering investments and build reusable components to ship faster with higher quality and consistency.
  6. Work with customers to make them successful and understand their unmet needs.
  7. Collaborate with Microsoft AI researchers and partner teams to deliver new value in our product and across Microsoft’s products.
  8. Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, collaboration, and customer focus.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  2. OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  1. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  2. OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  3. OR equivalent experience.
  4. Experience with Generative AI technologies, including Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, systems engineering.
  5. Track record of excellence in software engineering, including clean, modular design, coding, code reviews, testing, and devops.
  6. Experience with using big data, streaming, and analytics (e.g., Spark, SQL, Power BI).
  7. Startup mentality to move and iterate rapidly, work across disciplines, excellent communication and collaboration, growth mindset and focus on customers.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
