Alquemy's client is a rapidly growing organization in the renewable power industry. They are seeking a Senior Specialist, Turbines and Rotating Equipment to join their growing team.


The Senior Specialist will provide technical knowledge and perform tasks for rotating equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines and related equipment. This role covers the scope of responsibility from potential asset acquisition to the reliability, operations and maintenance of rotating equipment and associated assets across the fleet. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and does thorough work in the optimization, sustainability, maintainability, design, construction, and commissioning phases of various works.


Responsibilities:


  • Providing subject matter expertise for all model Steam and Combustion Turbines across the fleet, including operations, routine and outage maintenance, equipment upgrades or optimization, monitoring service bulletins and component repair recommendations.
  • Interpreting codes, regulations, statutes and standards associated with mechanical engineering as required to execute assigned projects.
  • Overseeing, implementing, and reviewing processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensuring mitigation of risks.
  • Providing detailed component repair Work Scopes, RFQ’s for component repairs; including all upgrades, repair procedure improvements, and providing recommendations to Plant Management and Senior Leadership to select Best Overall Bidder for each project.
  • Providing on-site technical support for the outages, projects, equipment upgrades, component repairs either at the plant, or the various vendor repair facilities.
  • Developing and maintaining long term maintenance outage schedules and work scopes for rotating equipment fleet, utilizing OEM standard recommendations, industry best practices, current unit condition and resources as guidelines.
  • Preparing, negotiating, managing project specific contracts.
  • Proactively providing recommendations to Plant Managers and company Executives to address issues or threat to unit performance and proactively improve reliability of the asset.
  • Leading due diligence reviews of rotating equipment assets during acquisition and major project processes.
  • Reviewing the plant’s previous outage reports, operating, maintenance procedures and preventative maintenance work orders, and recommend process improvements as applicable.
  • Developing or enhancing predictive and preventative maintenance programs to ensure the proper tasks are being performed at the proper frequencies reducing forced outages and decreasing outage durations.
  • Leading technical evaluations of LTSAs and providing recommendations to the Plant Manager and operations.
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to co-op students, engineers-in-training (EITs), and internal engineers.
  • Collaborating cooperatively with other members of the engineering and operations leadership team, department and plant operations to meet business unit and corporate objectives.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree, ideally in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Preference for Registered Professional Engineer PE in Arizona (or another state).
  • 15+ years as a Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation experience is required.
  • Comprehensive Mechanical Engineering experience with a background in:
  • Steam and combustion turbines
  • Rotating equipment and vibration analysis
  • Maintenance, reliability, design, construction, and commissioning experience
  • Project and contract management experience
  • Preference for turbine OEM experience
  • Strong communication skills (written; verbal).
  • Familiarity with CMMS, electronic drawing management systems, and SharePoint.


This is a hybrid position based in downtown Phoenix, with roughly 20% travel for project and plant maintenance support across North America.
