Job Description Summary:

What you need to know about the role - You will be designing and implementing complex, multi-tier distributed software applications, document and test systems, and modify as appropriate for our Braintree team. Meet our team: Join us at PayPal working on Braintree Payments! Our platform powers e-commerce transactions for many of the world’s largest merchants. The Payment Experiences team is the product owner of Pay with Venmo, Pay with PayPal, and Digital Wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay) for Braintree merchants. We build backend APIs that many of the largest and most familiar companies are depending on to keep their payments running smoothly.

Your day to day:

  • Write highly scalable and distributed Ruby on Rails services.
  • Drive technical projects and take pride in building systems that are used by millions of users every day.
  • Develop mid-tier services in a service-oriented architecture (SOA).
  • Work on traditional and non-traditional SORs from Oracle to Couchbase and Cassandra.
  • You think Agile is the way to go for faster development until something better comes along.
  • You call Linux and Vim your best buddies.

What you need to bring:

  • Strong Ruby or strong programming abilities in Java and other languages like Python, C++.
  • Strong understanding of algorithmic techniques, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Passionate about PayPal and its mission to build the web's most convenient, secure, and cost-effective payment solution.
  • Curiosity about how things work and the behavior of finding the answers. Flexible and adapting to changing circumstances, tenacious.
  • Knowledge/experience with Unix. Knowledge/experience with relational databases, NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge/experience with GitHub. Knowledge/experience with Service Oriented Architectures.
  • 5+ years and at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent).

The total compensation for this practice may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable), equity, and medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $72,700 to $176,000.
